Soft tops for TJ 1997-2002, 03-06?? What is the difference???

I own a 2004 TJ and am looking at some soft tops on Quadratec.com. What I don't understand is: Why are some listed as fitting years 1997-2002 and other tops fit 03-06? Besides the longer Unlimited version, I thought that all TJ's are the same size 1997-2006. Can someone please help me with this one???

Why shouldn't a 1997 soft top complete with hardware fit my 2004 TJ??

i had a 99 TJ and now i have a 06 TJ. there´s something different with the softtop. but i can´t say what it is exactly. the only obvious thing is that from 03 on the TJs have a different widshield channel.

What about Hardtops? Are they on the same principal? How long does a soft top usually last? Mine sounds like a paper bag going down the highway.

It will, but you might have to shave up the padding on the roll bar brackets. The roll bar brackets stick out a little further because of the thicker padding on the newer ones.

I have an '05 top on my '02, but I bought the brackets for '97-'02, only because I didn't get any brackets with mine.
