Solved my Death Wobble

Earlier I had posted about my death wobble in my 05 Jeep Wrangler. It was interesting but I have finally gotten it cured.

I went to a shop and had the alignment done, a new track bar put on the front, tires rotated, and all the bolts in the front end tightened. I then had my tires balanced.

It turns out that my tires were WAY out of balance. That seemed to make the biggest difference but the front end feels much tighter when I am driving it or I turn. I could tell an immediate difference when I got it out of the shop.

I still need to replace my tires. When I bought this Jeep last year it had some newer tires on it but I wasn't familiar with the brand. I am not sure what the brand is and I am being too lazy to look at what they are. Either way, they are in rough shape and I will probably replace them soon (there are a few flat spots on them and they have some odd wear from when I was getting the death wobble). Once the tires are replaced then I think it will ride even better.

Anyone have a particular tire that they like on their Jeep? What is the biggest tire I can go with on my factory rims and no lift? (I believe that I have the 15 inch rims). I haven't memorized the tire size yet either. LOL

Hey....Cut me some slack...I have had a Ford F-350 7.3 liter diesel for the past 6 or 7 years and I have all that stuff memorized so once I sell that off then I can work on memorizing my Jeep numbers! LOL

Most of the time it is the tires.

Your wheels are called Ravine by JEEP.

Ravine wheel spec's...
15x8 aluminum
5 on 4.5" bolt pattern
Backspacing = 5.5"

Stock.....31x10.5R15 tire.

Hrm....I wonder what I am running now for tires.

These aren't the original tires on my Jeep. I have never heard of this brand before but I will gladly forget about them when they are gone! LOL.

What brand of tires do you guys like to run on your jeep?

Check out the wheel and tire section of the forum here....Tires & Wheels - Jeep Wrangler Forum

Everyone has different ideas on tires. In the end it comes down to how you use your jeep and what you can afford. There are many, many threads in that section over alot of different tires. Pick what suites your needs.

How bad will the 31x10.5R15 effect my speedometer calibration?

Well the stock ravine wheels came with 30 by 9.5 tires stock so...maybe 2mph for the 31'' tire.

Ok...that isn't too bad. That is something to consider. Thanks for the info! I am going to wait to sell my diesel truck before getting the tires. Damn shame I couldn't get that 7.3 liter diesel into the Jeep! LOL

if you use it on the road 99% of the time I'd just get some nice A/Ts.

can't go wrong with the name brands like goodyear, bfg, nitto.. etc.. etc.

I went to 31X10.5x15 tires the other day. They look sweet on it and actually ride better than my beat up old Mesa All Terrain POS tires! I will have it down in the OBX sand towards the end of this month and I am really looking forward to playing a little down there!
