Some Disconnects Questions...

Hi,

some weeks ago i deinstalled the stock sway bar end links before driving off the road.
On the way to the offroad park the handling of the TJ was very bad. But off the road the handling was much better and flexing was much better.
I think I should buy some disconnects.

Now I have some questions:

1. There was no ramp and couldn´t test the difference without sway bar end links. Do you have some flexing pics with and without disconnects? Perhaps with a TJ that´s like mine (2" BB, 2" BL and 32s). How high can i drive on a ramp with and without disconnects?

2. Without the sway bar end links there was some tire rubbing inside the front fenders while full flex. I already have 1" bumpstop extensions (they came with my skyjacker BB). Do I have to extend them a bit moe? Or is just a bit tire rubbing ok...?

3. What brands or which disconnects are the best? Most people here have JKS quick or quicker disconnects. But they are very expensive. With tax and shipping a pair costs about 210$ over here...

4. Do i get better flex at the rear if i install some 2" longer sway bar end links instead of the stock there? Disconnects at the back are not useful I think. It´s hard to reach them because they are under the TJ.

5. Where do you put your disconnects when they are disconnected? Do you have some pics?

If you go with disco's, than I feel it is limited by what you want to spend. Some are a little easier than others to disconnect/reconnect. You can get different lengths depending on the amount of lift you have. Now, a lot more people are going to the Currie Anti-rock sway bar system, or similar style. I want this type of set-up one of these days. Feedback says they are great off-road and on and you don't have t anything unless you get a brand with the lock-out. It all comes down to what you want to spend and if you want to get out of your jeep or not.

i want the best offroad capabilities that i can get for my TJ. but it must be affordable and not too expensive.
i will not change some other things (suspension/bigger tires) in the next few years because i will loose the warranty then.
so i try to modify my rig.

something like the currie antrok isn´t allowed here in germany. so i´ll have to buy normal disconnects.

i only want to know hom much difference is there with or without discos.

which discos are easy to handle? and which are the easiest?

IMO, the best disco's are made by JKS. Very easy to install and very easy to operate once on the vehicle. I don't like their storage pins that require you to drill and tap them into the frame. I have knocked a set of those off with larger tires. So I use some cable ties that hold the disco's to the fender.



These are the JKS disco's I put on my rig and my wifes.



I don't have a picture showing the comparison between connected and disco'd tho. Hopefully someone will chime in for you

Is that a Tow Hook I see there? I thought you didn't like Tow Hooks?

It is. And a well trained eye would know you can't screw the longer factory bolts into the frame without the tow hook in place. Regardless, Anya is under no circumstances supposed to assist in recovery unless I am there. I need to build her a front bumper so we can hook her winch up. Yes, my wife has a 9500 lb winch for extraction.

1. No pics but with the sway bar connected at full flex and no lift I had over an inch of clearance between the front tire and the fender. With a OME HD 2.5 net lift no bump stop extentions and discoed, I had mild rubbing at full flex.
So a good guess is 3.5+ inches diff when discoed.
2. I did not worry about the very minor rubbing I had, as I seldom flexed that much for long. It did take a sliver or two off the fender flare, but not so you could tell.
3. JKS quicker 126.65 or so from northridge and free shipping in the US, not sure to Germany.

Well you can always build your own set of disconnects. They won't last as long as the JKS ones, you'll probably have to replace them once a year, but they sure will be inexpensive.
