Spartan locker

Sounded like a knock-off name to me at first, then I saw one for a 30 front in a YJ, looks pretty beefy... Does anyone run this brand in a rear 35?

If you're considering installing a locker into your stock rear Dana 35c axle, I can only suggest in my strongest possible opinion, don't. That axle is really not strong enough for a locker and the usual result of having installed a locker is a snapped axle shaft.

Check out this site for pics of what happens with locked Dana 35c axles... Another broken Jeep Dana 35c Rear-End.

I forgot to mention that I would be upgrading to the Super 35 kit. I was hoping to substitute the Spartan in place of the Detroit to save a little cash and I think it looks like a good locker . I should be ok if I have the Super 35 axles right? Thanks!

At least with the true Super 35 kit from Superior Axle, as opposed to some of the cheap knock-off kits, there is no option for the Spartan locker. Personally, I'd rather have the real thing, the U.S. made Detroit Locker, than the Spartan which is imported and only assembled in the U.S.

I ran a spartan in my 35 for about 6 months. That was until two weeks ago when I had a little too much fun and snapped one of the pins that engage in the carrier (not sure of proper name). Luckily it has a 1 year warranty & replacement is free. I may be wrong here, but it seems like the part that broke was designed to break before the axle shafts, which would have made it a much bigger headache to get home.

Mine is not a daily driver so the locker itself may have had 300 miles in 6 months. I also know that 37's & a locker are way too much stress for the d35, so I'm sure it was completely my fault it failed. Honestly, it lasted longer than I expected.

That is my experience with it.

I didn't realize they were imported.. I'd rather spend the extra cash and stick with US made, and something that fits! Certainly Superior is the one I'd choose, I'd don't trust any knock-offs either. I don't do anything to ruff that I break stuff all the time so I'd rather beef up the Dana instead of swapping to an 8.8 or something else. I may also stick with 33's instead of my much desired 35's. That would at least give me some peace of mind. Thanks!

Spartan is made by Yukon. I run a Spartan in my front D60. I like it a lot better than any Lockright or Powertrax I have ever had.
