Speaker Box Help

Anyone ever seen one of these? Supposedly came from the factory on my brothers. 1999.

The sub is blown.

Trying to decide if we should pitch it and start over or just replace the sub.

It was an accessory sold by Jeep when the TJ was out. I see this sell on Ebay for $75-150 Replace the sub. But is it not just 8"? I have never heard one play. So I don't know how hard it will hit.

See how sealed it is, and if good (most likely is sealed fine) replace the sub. Perhaps find a small digital amp to replace that one if you need a bit more power? Looks cool

I would replace the sub and go from there.

Should be labeled in the back near the connection points.

It might be marked on the speaker. But I bet it is 8 ohm.

Also, I noticed that quadratec has a plug-n-play replacement for $90. Probably not audiophile grade, but that amp probably won't run too much speaker anyhow.

There does not appear to be any data on the speaker but a model number which I have not been able to locate anywhere.

I believe all automotive speakers are 8 ohm. 4 ohm are used in house speakers.

I actually found a jeep accessory book from 1999. It's called a Sound Deck and has a built in 50 watt amp.

Its the other way. Home speakers are almost always 8ohm, car speakers are 4, and some subwoofers are 2. When you lower the ohms, you put extra load on the amp, but get nearly double the power output. You just need to be sure the amp can take a low ohm load without overheating.

I knew it was something like that. Dang dyslexia.
