Spedo Gear HELP!

I am trying to replace my spedometer gear in my transfer case to improve spedometer. I have 31" tires with 3.07 gears( i know they need to be changed). This site Changing Your Jeep Speedometer Gear calls for the part number 52067627
Through reaserch, i found that it is really rare to find a 27 tooth short shaft tj gear. I have heard of modding a long shaft 27 tooth for a yj.
Anyone done this?? Or know where I can get this gear

There really is not a need to change it for 31's Your speed error is very small and as expensive as the gears have become, it's not worth it.

If you want to change it this gear will work for your TJ.

I would have to agree with saying it's not worth changing. I have the stock speedo gear on mine still running 33's - however they currently measure about 31.5" ... Verified by GPS that I am only ~3 mph off at 60. Can't even see a difference in town driving around against the GPS.

I was to looking for the 27 short also mopar does not make one. Can either buy from somebody else or get the long shaft and convert it to a short. My odometer is off about 7 mph at 60. I decided not to change considering I want to go bigger anyhow soon.

The error is not going to be the same at all speed. There are wheel size comparison calculators all over the web. The error increases exponentionaly as the speed increases.

If you know someone with a GPS, check your indicated speed with that.
I used to have 32's on my TJ and couldn't tell the difference between the indicated speed showing on the dash and the GPS at any speed.
I was going to change my speedo gear but didn't bother after checking.

I have gps and verified when going 55 my spedo says 53. I think Neil is right about the speed being an exponential difference. She's my DD so i only check on the highway.
