Speedo Cluster Plastic Lens

Well well well,

I hope my local stealership had this one wrong. I called today about getting a replacement clear plastic lens that goes over the speedo cluster and was told it is $130!! Mine is not in bad or broken shape, it just has a few surface scratches from cleaning that pop in the sunlight, so I figured I would throw a new one in there to brighten it up, but nooo way at that price.
I had a MR2 some time ago, and a replacement lens for that thing was like $25 or something super cheap. What the hell is with Mopar?

I wouldn't doubt it. I wanted to get some new "limiting straps" for the full doors. Called the dealer and they wanted $14 PER strap. I went ahead and bought them but will look elsewhere next time.

How badly is it scratched? Mine had light scratches on it and I used Plast-X to polish it up. It looks much better now. You won't get deep scratches out, but it will remove or improve lighter scratches and get rid of haze. There are other plastic polishes out there, I've only used the plast-x so I can't speak for the others.

*EDIT*

Here it is for half that price. http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/.../04874345.html

Interestingly enough, it looks like that same part number fits grand cherokees as well. You may be able to find one at the salvage yard. Wranglers are hard to come by at salvages, but cherokees are more plentiful.

When I got my Jeep it also had a lot of minor scratches on the plastic for some reason. I bought some rubbing compound (I think it was made by Turtle Wax) and the scratches came right out. You would never know that they were there.

Good idea on the polishing idea guys, Thanks. I will try it and see how it turns out. The scratches arent that bad, just light surface ones, probably from cleaning it and wiping the dust/dirt around which caused it.
