Speedo off with 33" tires?

I got some 33's on my 2004 can that throw the speedo off? If so, by how much like 5mph? and would it be slower or faster than the actual speed?

Short answer, yes. On my YJ, 31's are off by 5 mph at 60-65. Speedo is showing say 65.....GPS has me rolling at 70 mph.

speedo will read slow and the odometer will count slower also. A new speedo gear takes 2 minutes to install and will make everything ok again!

My speedo is off by exactly 10mph on the highway since putting on the 33's. I never plan on running anything but the 33's on it, so I may have it calibrated. I just display the speed on my GPS for now.

I have a 4.0 with the five speed with 3.73s and my soeedo is pretty off with 33s. At 25 I'm actually going 29, at 35 I'm going 40, at 45 I'm going 52, and at 50 I'm going 60. I need a new gear lol.

Look on the tag of one of your differentials. It'll say 3.08, 3.55, 3.73, or 4.11 depending on what model you have.

Could be a 3.07 or 3.73. There should be a tag on your axle that if present, will indicate the ratio that is inside like below which is indicating the axle in the photo has a 3.73.

There are many inaccurate speedometer gear charts so be wary of the speedometer gear tooth count recommended, some are incorrect and will not give you an accurate speedometer/odomter. The chart at Changing Your Jeep Speedometer Gear (click on the chart to make it full size) is known accurate and has been GPS verified.

Look for a metal tag on your rear diff cover, it should tell you the ratio.

How much slower will the odometer count?

My 98 shows 110000 miles but I have 3.73 and 33's. If they've been on there for (wild guess here, I just got her) 30,000 miles, I wonder what my true mileage is.

My speedo and Odo are off 10% throughout the range... I need a new gear too, but since it's consistant, I'm in no rush.
