sport earned a rubicon decals

I saw a add on craigslist for a 2004 sport, when I looked at the pics. I saw it had rubicon decals, so I asked the guy if it was a sport or a rubicon. He reponded that with the lift, tires and differentials it earned the rubicon decals. So I responded back, does that mean it has front and rear lockers, 4 to 1 ratio in low range, and front discos? He hasn't responded back yet, no surprise, what a joke.

It's pretty obnoxious when people do that. Especially as a Rubi owner.

There is a sport up at school with rubicon badges on it. Noticed it looked off with the standard flares and lack of lift. Took a peak inside and no surprise, no locker switch.

I own a rubicon and its real, I take offense to fake Rubicons. But when it comes down to it, My rubi will out lock and out crawl any sport. It's someones ego boost but real rubi owners know their own kind.

Yeah, it's not that you can't build a sport up to a rubicon, or even better, but to throw in a lift and call it good, come on. The sad part is someone is going to buy the thing and find out later that he got hosed. So does this mean I can put sport badges on my x, I added an air freshener last week so I am good, right?

No no LMAO I just agree with aikmanson, look for the rubicon flares, locker switch and two D44s. I, myself, at one time didn't know what to look for with a rubicon. I guess the hood decal is usually a give away but not when people rebadge their Jeeps without actually building it to be on. I liken it to the old Cameros that were turned into the SS but still had the 305 or 250 straight 6. I'm all down for making a clone but not just slapping some decals on it for no reason other than false advertisement, at least it was labled a sport in the ad and they werent trying to sell it as an actual Rubicon.

When I asked, he said yeah it's a rubicon now that I did all these mods. but when I pushed for more answers he said, well no it doesn't have lockers or discos, or 4 to 1 transfer case or 4:10 gears, pretty much just has the stickers.

You're going to build a "sleeper" Jeep.

I removed the Rubicon stickers and put some SE stickers on the side. Is that OK? I had to; I didn't know the secret handshake.

Yeah its bad that he is trying sell it as a Rubicon, almost could pull it over on someone.
Yeah but the one thing he forgot about is THE HANDSHAKE, ask him about the Rubicon handshake, if he doesn't know it then tell him he cant sell it as a Rubi. Also inform him that someone who is driving a vehicle that isn't a Rubicon will be pulled over by a real Rubicon and have his stickers ripped off motorcycle gang style. LMFAO!

I would try to nicely tell him that he needs to make people aware of that. If some person buys it & doesn't know any better, then finds out after....sheesh...what a mess.

Thanks for taking my comment as intended.....all in good fun. Adding the stickers is one thing. Advertising or implying it is a Rubicon during a sale is another story.

Because the Rubicon model catches some extra dollars on resale! there was a guy trying selling a 2000 sport Rubicon on Kijji. I sent Kijji a little jeep history and the removed the ad.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery but selling it as a real Rubi is just wrong. I think if you want to build up to Rubi spec and badge it as one go for it. Just be honest when you put it up for sale. The hotrod/classic car industry has been doing clones, replicas, copies, reproductions, recreations whatever you want to call it for years. Why is it any different for our beloved Jeeps? A quick check of the serial number will always tell you what you want to know.

The trail rated badge is only on one side. The other side is the antenna.
