Dont know about Jeeps but on most cars the whole dash has one or two connectors behind it with all the wires going through there. Sounds like its loose, like the whole dash lost power or connectivity all at once then when you jolted the car it jiggled it enough to become connected again.

2x, i'm with Smeghead.

Take the dash apart and push the connectors in.

There was a recall on 98 jeeps for the wiring behind the dash. Check with the jeep website and run the VIN to see if it was serviced for the recall.

I was provided the wiring to fix the issue on my jeep when I bought it used, the previous owner was just too lazy to fix the issue.

Input your VIN on the toolbar on the left side of the jeep website to check.

If you had already had this done then something might just be lose.

You might want to stop into a dealership anyhow and have them look it up as well, I have seen a few cases where these types of thing were in a Service Bulletin or something else which might not be covered by the website.
