Thought I would share this. I just finished spraying the back two roll bar pads today with Duplicolor fabric spray paint. Looks awesome. Super easy to spray it and it comes out really nice. Pretty fool proof. It also dries instantly.
I can't wait to finish the rest. It's gonna look awesome completed.
The white spots you see on the padding are just towel fibers.
Def. a project everyone should do if your roll bar pads are faded and purple like mine are/were.
Are you going to do this on your seat covers? All of my seat covers have a purple tint. I just wonder if spray painting them would ruin the feel of the fabric.
I have looked at this stuff. It looks good but how does it feel when it is dry? Does the fabric feel normal? I thought it may feel sort of stiff and hard when it dried.
Maybe a tad rougher but definitely not stiff or hard. Texture is very close if not the same as before I painted it. Think of it as a dye rather than a spray paint.
I have- I painted EVERYTHING last summer. This is the rundown for me:
With the exception of the fenders, I used Duplicolor Vinyl/Fabric paint for the colors.
Rollbar pads
Pros:went from purple to black. Awesome. Just like the OP's pictures.
Cons: Will fade back- the rear of mine(which faces the sun when in carport) is somewhat purple again. Still looks better than not doing it.
Dash
Pros: looks awesome. I changed from a tan/spice interior to light gray. Here, I was able to apply a clearcoat for UV, so no fading.
Cons: takes a while.
Interior carpet
Pros: changed mine from tan to gray, looks pretty good.
Cons: old crappy carpet might tear if you don't know how to remove it at first. Also, removing the carpet to spray will inadvertently show you the rust you didn't know about...
Seats
Pros: the vinyl parts of the seat painted just fine, and wouldn't peel off with even 1 coat.
Cons: The fabric part was terrible. I have the weird tan/spice seats that have little zigzags of blue/red in them... coat after coat and i could still see them. Made the fuzzy fabric stiff. I bought seat covers. A much better thing to do.
Fenders
Pros: went from gray to black
Cons: I didn't use a UV clearcoat. Now they are faded somewhere inbetween black and gray
Soft top
Pros: outside of top went on perfect. covered up mildew spots/changed color
Cons: inside material doesn't color well. "tough" rubbing will take off the paint.
Finally got around to finishing the rest of the roll bar padding. Looks 100x better, really makes the Jeep look new

It looks awesome. Took 3 cans to do all the padding (with some left over) and it dries instantly (within a couple seconds). I used duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint in flat black. The longest part of the project was removing the seatbelt brackets, the sound bar, and the front two bars that stretch from the windshield to the soundbar. Super easy just takes a bit of time. You could easily do this in a day.

Iv been wondering about doing something with my roll bar pads, their supposed to be black but their pretty sun faded to a brownish grey color. How is the duplicolor holding up? Does it come off on the skin or in the rain?
This is awesome. I was just wondering what to do about my ugly faded pads when I took the top down at the beginning of the weekend. Definitely putting this on my "to-do" list!
Searched the forums, but couldn't find a definite answer:
How do you remove the padding on the sound bar and up front? The padding in the back is very easy to remove - just a T40 or T50 to remove the seatbelts.
Not sure how to approach the sound bar and front seat though.
Actually the sound bar looks mostly straightforward... looks like it is just one piece covering the sound bar and it is connected to the padding covering the bar just behind the driver/passenger seat.
What about the padding up top in the front seat? How does that come off?
yes, cheap simple upgrade that makes the pads look like new.
a coat or two and they look fabulous !!!
did not have luck with it sticking a long time on the doors or dash
