Spraying the tub tomorrow

Just finished removing everything. Going to start early prepping the surface and hope to spray it in the evening. Weather is perfect at 86 degrees daily. If curred, I plan to install my sound system and interior on Sunday.

Does it look like I missed anything?

Just read another thread about spraying the roll bar pads with fabric paint. Going to add that to my list for the weekend since it's apart.

it should be cured enough to do the sound system install at 24hrs, but definitely don't bolt anything else in (seats, etc) until monday at the earliest. this stuff hardens to the touch pretty quick but is still pretty soft underneath for at least 48 hours. really it takes 3-4 days to truly cure.

Just my experience! I bolted my stuff in about 36 hours after spraying and was sorry I didn't wait. I have had to do some serious touch up around the seats.good luck and hope you like it (I do; I just made some mistakes which were not the product's fault)

looks like your all set, make sure to tape off really good, i slacked a little around the tailgate when i did mine and got a little on the lip of the tup where the tailgate shuts, also in case you didnt think of it, i rolled up little pieces of tape and stuck them in the holes where the bolts for the back seat are so as to not mess up the threads, post pics when your done!

I'd really like to let it sit for three days but need to drive it into work on Monday. Might have no choice but to at least install the drivers seat.

I read about rolled tape for the holes. Just removed the rear seat belts and pads. Going to have to buy a new torque bit for the sound bar cause mine just snapped. Also need some acetone to wipe everything down prior to spraying. Will continue to post pictures for entertainment.

Did you all cover up the computer ECM or just spray it? I guess the carpet covered it.

I snapped 3 different torx bits during the course of my raptor prep work.
I used a piece of cardboard (had a helper) to shield the ECM.
I just put in the same head unit and 6.5s (went with the polk 4x6s in front) and so far sounds good. Just a word of advice, those 6.5s don't hold up to hard off-roading. the capacitor in one keeps snapping off its terminal. I've had to re-solder it twice now.
Also, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the BT to work to answer a call; for streaming audio it's fine but I can't get phone calls to come through. Probably user error

Is that kit enough to do a couple of coats, or do you need more?
I'm gonna start this project in a couple of weeks myself. I'm still not sure what product to use. I want it to be a spray-in, imo it looks better. I've been using rustoleum bedliner on other parts - bumpers, flares, maybe the grill as well - and it would be nice to have the interior match. Does the Raptor product match well, or is it going to be an obvious difference? (I'm guessing the Raptor product is far more durable?)

At 50 psi I did two coats, easily with 2.5 bottles, used the rest for touch ups, and have the fourth bottle for later down the line when I really need to do touch ups

I just finished and I'm very happy with the results. I sprayed at 50 psi and was able to get two coats and applied the rest to the traffic areas.

All prepped

First coat

Finished

Good to know about the speaker capacitors. Hope I don't have to break out the soldier iron.

Jeep is baking in the sun. I removed the top prior and will spray the roll bar pads tomorrow. Looks like I'll install the interior on Monday.

For prepping I just used several 380 grit sanding blocks. Just needed to scuff the surface. Used scotch bright pads for the harder areas.

I also sprayed the inside of the tailgate. Overall it was a pretty easy process.

Thanks VERY MUCH for these two pics! I was wondering what I was gonna do with those wires, lol!

This is the one project I've been putting off all year, since it leaves your Jeep in parts for several days, lol. I'm running out of summer, though. Probably should start getting stuff ordered! (It seems every parts store within 100 miles of me is a Herculiner fan-boy) I'm thinking about using the Tintable version, and doing it O.D. or a gray that matches my interior.

I prefer a spray application over a rolled one. The Raptor is a great kit and applies easily.

Funny about the wires. I really wanted to disconnect them but would require taking the rear tail light apart.

Yes is sucks not being able to drive the Jeep for a couple of days but you will love the end results.

Can you please give us a run down on the setup you used to spray it? I've been reading about this stuff and need to do it to mine.

I did that too...and it's true what they say about "once you go black"...wait a second...

By the way, if you do paint it...Krylon Fusion does NOT stick to the grab bar above the glove box worth a crap. However, PlastiDip works amazing on it!

I'll keep it tan. I actually like the color and don't want a black interior due to heat.

exactly my experience w/ the grab bar. I posted about this on another thread, some guys said if you go over it 3-4x then hit it with clear coat it will stick; however I don't think so. I've gone over my grab bar w/ the Fusion like 5 or 6x and it's still sticky and tan still bleeds thru (this was done about 2 months ago.) Thanks for the Plasti-dip idea, my last resort was going to be about 20' of paracord and youtube.

OP- yeah good luck w/those 6.5s. I think I snapped the capacitor again last night just driving around town (sometimes hard to tell w/ pandora, they get crappy old live audio recordings sometimes.) Gonna go out and pull the sound bar off AGAIN to check here in a bit.

Yeah, the PlastiDip matches almost perfectly as well...and it still has a rubbery feeling (PlastiDip is a synthetic rubber), but it's no longer tacky. What I did was scrub all the old Fusion off before I painted it (used Xylol and a scotch brite pad) with the PlastiDip...just to make sure it adhered okay. Seemed to work great for me...only thing is, you gotta wait 30 minutes minimum between PlastiDip coats (apply 3-4 coats) and then it says to wait at least 4 hours for it to dry. It seemed dry enough to handle after an hour or so...but I definitely would minimize the amount of handling done until it's fully dry. I'm thinking about doing my door panels and console with it down the road since those will probably scuff up faster than the rest of the dash and the Fusion scuffs easier than I expected.
