I have to admit I did not sleep much this week. I was getting off work around 11pm then working in the garage till 3 or 4 each night then getting up with the girls at 7am since Tammy had to work all week. I got home from work Thursday night and just fell asleep . Now to get the front axle done. then I'll tear the rest of the Jeep apart soon enough when I paint it this fall.

i was gonna rip you apart for swapping your stick for an auto, but i live in MI, so rock crawling isnt so prevelant here. truth be told: if i ever want a serious climbing rig, it will have an automatic trans. hope it works well for ya.

Update, I have about 300 miles on the auto tranny swap now and I love it. I still need to swap out my front axle before I can go wheeling though. I'm planning on going to Rausch creek next month so I will put up some pics and maybe a video of the new setup in action.

I've been seriously considering taking on this project...I like having a 5 speed, but at the same time, I really miss having an automatic especially when I'm traveling. How would my Jeep perform with 33" tires, 3.73 gearing, and the 32RH tranny?

I've got the NV3550 currently...5th gear is basically useless unless I'm running 65+ on the interstate...but I can't afford a regear currently. It's in the plans though...along with installing truetracs or e-lockers.

Solman hos is your 32rh tranny doing? I am about to do the same swap and waned to ask you is this is all that I need?

* -tranny
-computer (ECM) from the auto JEEP
-SHIFTER Cables
-pedal
-shifter/bezel
-tranny coolant lines

-Torque converter
-Engine/trans backing plate
- flex plate (similar to a flywheel)
-tranny mount bracket and mount

can I use the computer (ECM) from a different year than the auto tranny?

You can use a different year PCM (ECM) from the auto tranny but be sure the new auto-style PCM is the same year and engine as what you have.

Be sure to get the special low profile bolts that hold the flex plate in place or the torque converter will rip into them. Getting the right hardware with all the parts will make the job go a lot faster. Make sure the tranny coolant lines are for your model year TJ too, they aren't all the same.

You will need to change the front driveshaft to the skinnier diameter automatic style driveshaft. The manual transmission front driveshaft's diameter is too big to clear the automatic's wide pan area.

You'll also need the automatic style transmission mount which is completely different from the one holding the manual transmission.

I stuck with the standard manual style brake pedal since it's a big hassle to convert all that over to use the wider automatic brake pedal. I just welded a piece of 3/4" rod steel between the clutch pedal and brake pedal so I could use my left foot on the clutch pedal as the brake and right foot on the gas to work up obstacles. It worked very well.

Jerry pretty much covered it. I posted a list on the 1st page you can check out. As for the PCM being the same year I am not 100% sure what will and will not work. My jeep is a 1997 but I am running 1998 PCM with no trouble.

the 32rh is coming out of a 98 Sahara, and I currently have a 97 Sahara. so I have to have to get a PCM (ECM) from a 97 to match my exiting stock 97 engine?

I remember reading some where that the coolant lines run different acording to the year of the auto tranny. Would I be running into a problem with this?

You should be fine using the 98 PCM in your 97. That's what mine has been running on for the last 5 months

Depends. I wouldn't mind having an auto for offroading some trails, but I do like driving stick. I guess I just need to buy another Jeep.

What do you consider hassle? Remove the 6 nuts off the studs on the firewall holding the original 2 pedal assembly. Push the brake booster forward to drop the brake down around the booster push rod and then put the single pedal up in there and put 4 of the nuts back onto the booster studs.

2 of the nuts hold the original clutch master, so you take those off anyway which just leaves the 4 on the booster. It me be a bit tedious laying on your back under there, but it not what I consider a big hassle at all.

If you need to remove the brake light switch to transfer it to the new pedal, hold the bracket in your left hand with the switch pointing to the right. Grap the switch in your right hand and rotate the top toward you about 30 degrees and it will unlock the tabs out of the bracket at which point you can pull it out. Reverse to install.

I found a guy selling all this parts from a 98 Sahara

-tranny
-computer (ECM)
-shifter Cables
-pedal
-tranny coolant lines

-Torque converter
-Engine/trans backing plate
-tranny mount bracket

He is selling me everything for $550, would this be a good deals since I still need to look for the

-flex plate (similar to a flywheel)
-shifter/bezel
-Shifter handle

My jeep is a 97 Sahara so im hopping I can still use the ECM from the 98 Sahara. What do you guys think?

In my Big Bronco, peeps are like "How did you get that big POS up here?" My AOD was a life saver so many times. Unfortunately my 03 Rubi has a manual but since I only have a 2.5" Skyjacker for now. It will suffice until I get my 5.5" RE LA.

I was able to bring the price down to $500 with all the part listed above. Is that a fair price? I haven't see that many 32rh swap on sell so I don't know if I should pull the trigger and pick it up tomorrow

Thats a good price. I got all of mine for $550 but that was from a friend. I was looking at over $1000 to piece everything together myself.
