Starting first mods, looking for advice

Hello all,

I have a 2004 Wrangler Willys edition. 6 cylinder, automatic transmission. Ive finally saved enough money to start modding. Heres what im planning on doing:

To start off, no lift (i know i know, bear with me though.) Im going to remove the inner fenders and fender flares and replace with 3 inch flat fenders. Im going to put 35x12.50x16LT goodyear duratacs on a 16x8 Black Rock 950 wheels that come with a 5 inch backspacing built in. Im going to replace the stock bumper with a Smittybuilt XRC bumper with tire swing. Im really looking for a low, wide, aggressive stance.

Major questions are: will i have to regear and replace the transfer case? Do you think with the open wheel wells and backspacing on the wheels ill be ok, or will they rub? And is there anything ive missed or should do as well? I know everyone lifts to put on bigger tires, but from what ive researched i should be able to run 35s without a lift. Looking for some experienced jeepers input! Thanks in advance!

Check out Jim Allen and Christian Lee books on TJ mods and get the full picture before you do anything. And many of the choices revolve around exactly what you want to do with your jeep now or maybe just as important in the future. You may not want a rock crawling machine right now but after you discover how capable the TJ is that may change and thus your build up plan will change as well. Most important have fun.
