Steering box leaking profusely

It started as a few drops a day but today, it was leaking like made (I'm talking a quart an hour) so today instead of buying a model plane, I wound up purchasing a rebuilt steering box.

I'm so happy. My Jeep is now drip free. It seems that the bushing in the box broke and just started gushing. Is this a common problem? Why do you think this happened?

It happened because you said you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

Lemme see a pic of this model jet plane, that must be quite something

A steering box seal that broke badly enough to let the PSF dump out like that is not common, but it happens. The good news is your PS system now has a fresh load of PS fluid. Hopefully you went with synthetic which won't boil as easily on a tough trail which makes steering difficult.

Here's a pic of my aftermarket Tommy Lee extra-heavy duty steering box dumping its load of PS fluid half-way up Sledgehammer in Johnson Valley. So yep, it happens.

Just that, with a spare steering box that a friend happened to have. He has what has become known as the "magic parts box" that always seems to have whatever is needed when running the Hammers. You absolutely need to carry spare parts when doing those trails in Johnson Valley. I was VERY lucky that day, especially since he had a freshly rebuilt spare Tommy Lee steering box, the same one that I had. I bought it used and it turns out it had a bad seal in it when I bought it.

How far can you run with a busted box? Come on, it's a Jeep. They love pain.

Not at all. Without PS fluid, you'll take out the power steering pump in seconds.
