Steering box replacement

I have a 2000 Jeep tj sport...does anyone know if a jeep cherokee steering box will fit? I'm having trouble getting my hands on a durango box so i'm looking for other suggestions?

I've never heard of anyone using a Cherokee steering box for a TJ like I have a Durango box. Because the Cherokee's steering box is mounted to a unibody mount instead of a frame like the TJ's is, I wouldn't suspect too strongly that they would be the same.

And welcome to WF JeepGurl.

I don't mean to hijack a thread but! from this conversation I take it that some Darango boxes fit on a TJ? what years and are they a direct bolt on? I have 156K on mine and the box is a little tired. The juck yards are full of great parts right now after the cash for clunker deal. So now might be a good time to look for suff Thanks and sorry for jumping in the middle of this. John

its whatever the last 2 years were before they went to a rack and pinion system, i think 98-99 but it might be 00. im 100% on the 99 tho. durango or dakota, same box, direct bolt on.

from the research I have done ---98-99 dakota or durango 4wd box is a direct replacement. I will be getting a reman from a local auto parts house next month. I decided to go that way instead of a junk yard box because it is only 30.00 more for the reman and they will not hassle me for the different core.

That's a GM product so it is highly doubtful.
