Angry stereo problems

ive got a 2000 sahara. i have recently replaced the stock hu with a new kenwood. soon after installation, i noticed that the volume would fade in and out depending on how high it was turned up. i assumed it was the speakers so i replaced them as well with aftermarket speakers but low and behold, i still have the fading problem! is there something wrong with my brand new hu or bad wiring, connections, etc????

Hey man, I could be completely wrong here(and I think I am) but I know some cars automatically lower the volume when you slow down and increase it as you accelerate. I have a 97 TJ and mine doesnt do it but not sure about 2000 TJ. I doubt that this is right but who knows. Another thing could be bad wiring. Negative to Positive or something. Some people say it doesnt matter but who knows. I would call a car stereo specialist and ask them.

An aftermarket unit wouldnt have an auto volume and the ones that do isnt set on default meaning you'd have to turn that setting on. seems to me you have an impedence issue. a speaker wire might be touching metal or youre lacking ample power supply. some wires will show 12vdc when youre checking but under a load it may drop. when youre blasting the head unit,( as we must in our Jeeps), it draws the most current. If it doesnt fade in & out during normal volume there may be something wrong with the internal amp on the head unit and since it did that before your speaker swap that may be the case. I hope this helps.....

Check the wiring. If a wire is hitting something, it could be just shorting the power to the radio out and causing voltage drops, leading to the quieter sound. So check wires first. Other than that, it has to be the radio itself. Probably not speaker problems and probably not speaker wire problems because most radios will shut off if speaker wires short out, so its most likely the ground wire or power wire shorting out. Could be connections. At low volume, bad connections could be fine but when you turn it up and more power tries to go through, it could throttle it down. Best of luck

If your head unit only receives ground with your antenna connected you need to make another ground point. Grab the black wire off the radio and extend it if need be, place a ring terminal on it and self tap it to a metal cross bar back there behind the radio or scratch some paint off the floor or one of your wires to the cig lighter, something No doubt that it will work with just the antenna but the amount of resistance its getting may be causing your problem. The shorter a ground wire the better
