I wanna feel the bumps, hear the tranny gears whine, listen to the soft top flutter, and stand out from the soccer mom crowd. Whenever I see a woman driving a new Jeep, she looks 'high maintenance' to me. When I see a man drivingone, I think he bought it to please his high maintenance wife. LOL!

But, that's just me, and that's the way I think
Right on!!! Could not say it better myself.

I really don't have anything against them but I rather spend money on my TJ. looking to spend $5000 plus.

My first drive in a jeep was a cj7, drove a yj once, own a TJ.. Wheeled a JK once two. Personally I love my TJ but I would
Love a JKU also. JK s are very capable and the extra room rocks. My only gripe is the v6. It's a turd. Guess I just love jeeps period.

The first time me and my wife wheeled at rausch creek we came across a club of ppl getting ready to hit the trail and after we met a few ppl we started to talk with a nice older couple and when I was asked what do I have I pointed to my teal tj.the man stuck is nose in the air and walked away from and got back in his jacked up jk and drove away.2 hours later we ran into him trying to get un stuck off a hill that I just went over. He then asked me for some help and I put my nose up in the air and drove down the trail. Not saying all the ppl who own a jk are this way but your not better then me cause your junk cost more then mine and that's why I don't like jk's

You reckon that's all it really boils down to anyway, class envy? With each new design being more and more expensive than the previous, it's not too much of a stretch to wonder. Seems odd though because most of my TJ friends have way more money in their rigs than I (and have made them much more capable than mine). I don't know, probably nothing to that. I think that old JK guy was just an a$$h@l3

Oh, and Just4Fun, I probably would have done the same as you when that dude asked for help, however it's the people that help out anyway that win the day. I know folks on this board that would have helped him out regardless of his previous "stupidassness" without a moment's hesitation, Ageless Stranger for one, and that's why everyone that ever meets Josh holds him in the highest regard.

Just sayin.

Since then I've wheeled with ppl who own the 4 door jk and bring the whole family to wheel. And im sure if I had little kids I would have 1 also. And I normally help anybody at anytime but that guy has learned that carma is a b itch. I like the tj to much to get a jk anyway I feel its to car like.

I know what you mean, I hated it when my Dad sold the 1972 C/10 and went with a GMC Sierra Denali. No more 3-on-the-tree, bad handling, no-frills interior and subjected us to all that leather, wood grain, electronics, heated seats, satellite radio and nav, superior handling/towing/breaking, and all that. Definitely 'too car-like'.

From my test drive experience it's not like the v6 is a turd it just not good in the Jk. Seems if that engine was in the TJ would defiantly have a little more go.

Im not sure what the gearing was in the sahara but it had bigger tires I think 32 inch, my Tj I have 31's with stock gears (3.07) and I have or seemed like more power. I got on the Jk pretty good.

Well I just looked at the weight on the Jk the 2 door model ranges from 3700 to 4200 pending on sport ,sahara or rubicon, the Tj is less but not by much, the Jk is alot bigger but all the plastic keeps the weight down I would think.

Is this thread for real? Seriously, you guys are stupid.

A stock JK is as good of a wheeler as a stock TJ. The fact that you don't believe it has nothing to do with whether it's true. By every objective measurement, the JK improved on the TJ, as I'm sure the next Wrangler iteration will improve on the JK.

However, when that next generation of Wrangler comes out, I'm pretty sure I'll manage not to bitch about it like Jeep hurt my feelings. I'll just keep building up my JK, sort of like you guys are doing with your TJs but without all the rationalization and bullsh*t. Notably, I have yet to see one thread in the JK section trashing the TJs.

I get denied waves and waved to on an equal opportunity basis.

Regardless, TJs and JKs are both Jeeps and I'd own both if I could. So, in my humble opinion, I'd say everybody should just STFU or GTFO.

Intentions were not to trash the Jk if you read the title dude, s**t I test drove a Jk and I was giving an honest opinion as to what I thought, did not care for it. I've stated before I drove a yj for awhile and did not have the same feeling when buying my Tj. The Jk is a different jeep and IMO does not feel like a jeep, I'm not saying it's not " the best jeep ever " but if I upgrade I'm sticking with a Tj, that's my point.

My critique was more global on the thread as a whole rather than you specifically. You're of course entitled to your opinion and preferences.

The problem here is that many of the comments reflect a great deal of rationalization.

I would be very surprised if almost everybody here would not accept a free, brand new JK--already similarly modded as your current TJ--in exchange for their TJ. In other words, if you were offered a JK free-of-charge with equivalent mods to what you already have on your TJ, and all you had to do was swap keys, would you take it? I bet you would.

And you know what? That's OKAY. I'd probably take the same deal ten years from now. Not being willing to "pay up" to go from stock-to-stock or get rid of your heavily modded TJ in exchange for a stock JK is quite another matter and not a meaningful comparison. None of the threads like this one ever seem to acknowledge this. The approach instead is just to claim the JK is a van and for soccer moms and would be left behind on the trail and is not a "real" Jeep, etc. etc.

As for not "feeling like a Jeep," the jump from a YJ to a TJ wasn't quite as far as the TJ to the JK. There are plenty of CJ folks who feel that neither your nor I are driving "real" Jeeps. I think a lot of it just depends where you start, which is another way to say that it's arbitrary. My JK sure rides a heck of a lot different than any other vehicle I've been in, so, to me, that's what a Jeep "feels like."

Cool.

To be clear though, I really like TJs. I would love to have a 2006 Rubi Unlimited. If my finances were such that I had to sell my JK, a 2006 Rubi Unlimited would of course also be too expensive, but I'd still take the equity I pulled out of the JK and put it into an early-2000s TJ.

Like I said, I wish I had both.

Yep--you, me, and everybody else. KBB still has their retail value at nearly $20k. With a lift and some nice mods, those things are just an all around good looking and performing Jeep. My wife keeps telling me something about us having three toddlers, shouldn't have two Jeeps, blah blah. I dunno, I think we could really use one . . . .

I love to have any damn rubicon! I just got done browsing eBay, even for an 06 they still expensive. Some dudes selling and 06 with a 4 inch long arm w/ 35's said he's got 25 grand into mods. bodies seen better days he fully admits it seen the trail. Lol. Things sick. I mean I can afford through finance a new jeep but I'd rather put $$ into mine but my jeep has 160,000 miles and I would not know were to start. Also putting money into a jeep that's older
Without "fully restoring" is it worth it? I don't know what to do. Yes I am a mall/beach crawler now but what to do something fun with my life and wheeling seems fun. Ahh I dunno.

the only thing about rubicons (at least the ones i tested) were that people actually used them as jeeps. they were a little rough on feeling and definitely felt used. thats why i ended up buying a regular stock one since it didnt have that abused feeling

M'eh, you might be surprised once you drove the JK for a little while.

But even if not, that actually goes back to my point--the result would be that you'd have a more throughly modded TJ than a JK, so you again wouldn't really be comparing the two on equal footing.

That said, there's nothing wrong with simply prefering the TJ. If I were in the market for a used Jeep, I'd take a 2006 Rubi Unlimited over a JKU Sport/Sahara.

My issue is simply that it's one thing to say "I prefer the TJ," while it's quite another to say "The JK is less competent for Jeeping." The former is a matter of opinion, the latter is factually incorrect.

I think deep down you're just jealous I can do all that I can do stock that you have to go aftermarket to achieve and, I can do it in luxury. hehehe. Love my electric windows, locks, swaybar disconnect, and lockers. Love the extra room you don't have and love the extra clearance for real-sized tires instead of those overweight bicycle tires you drive on. I love being able to set the cruise control at 80MPH and cruise down to the trails, wait while the have-nots lay on the ground in front of the rigs disconnecting their sway bar, then hit the trails hard, pulling out the occasional TJ that gets hung up doing the single-wheel spin & grin or can't handle the ruts on their 29 or 30" tires. Then, when it's time to head back home, wave goodbye to the TJs as their owners are once again on the ground reconnecting and looking forward to watchinig grandma in the delta 88 pass them on the interstate on their slowazz trip home. LOL

Ok, that's all I've got. I know, it's not much.

I love my TJ too!! Anything that gets me off-road with great friends and the chance to make new ones and have a blast is alright with me. I guess all my YJ friends have been through all of this already and are just hanging back having a chuckle or two.
Well said-Bottom line--"Anything that gets me off-road with great friends and the chance to make new ones and have a blast is alright with me." To me that is the "JEEP thing".

the only think i dont like about the jk is that slanting grill but i do like how you can fit 35" tires with just a 4" lift and everything looks nice and proportional
also, since the tj has been out so long, its pretty much an icon. you see it in so many movies that its just the image that comes to mind when you think of jeep.
given some time, im sure the jk can set an image for itself.
as for capabilities, both are extremely capable vehicles off road
after all, theyre still a jeep

I'm still keeping my TJ because I FREAKIN LOVE IT!!!! I told my wife that's the only mistress she has to worry about and she said she already knew that, LOL. But you give me a new JK RUBI and I'll take it. I'm still keeping my TJ though but I'd take a JK RUBI. Yes there's things on it I don't like or care for but I can deal with it. Oh and to whoever said they like going to the trails with there JK and wheelin and watching the stock TJ guys being stuck or fumbling around with stuff. You won't see me stuck in my pretty much stock TJ, all I have right now is bigger tires and rims and a better sound system, actually on some of the trails I've been on I've had to pull JK's out. I've done some crazy stuff and had ppl look at me a say damn how's he doing that with a stock TJ!!! Lol well you gotta remember one thing it's also the driver. You gotta know what your doing no matter what your preference is, wether a TJ or a JK or a CJ or YJ, if you don't know what your doing then your going to get stuck or high center yourself on something! But as far as I'm concerned I love jeep period!!! Some of the owners of JK's i don't like because they look at me in my TJ like I'm some broke guy being a wannabe with a jeep. Which in general the TJ set the mark for the JK's so JK owners your welcomed. Just like all the older jeeps set the mark for the TJ. Anyways we all need to get along on the trails and on the roads! I like making new friends so JK guys and gals... Start waving at me when I wave to you, lol!!
THE END... :WAVEY:

THE END... :WAVEY:
"so JK guys and gals...Start waving at me when I wave to you"

Sorry.... Had to repeat that line : p

If I see it, I wave.

I get plenty of wave backs from all Wranglers, and when I get rejected I find it's pretty equal across all Wranglers.

A few days ago a middle aged "soccer mom" in a stock JKU Sahara pulled up extra far at an intersection in the straight lane next to my turn lane so she could catch my eye and wave before I turned. A similar middle aged woman in a TJ this morning obviously had no earthly idea why I was waving to her.

Overall, I'd expent that the folks on this forum aren't the non-wavers. So this is a sort of "preaching to the choir" kind of topic unfortunately.

This is one topic I'm not sure why Jeep doesn't push/advertise. The Jeep community--particularly around Wranglers--is so entrenched. Why not promote that in the advertising materials? At least put an index card in the glove box reminding people to wave.
