Stock 2004 TJ: Replace Backup Switch = Drop Belly Pan?

Good Day All!

I posted this on another forum that shall not be named.

This is my first post here! So Howdy!
First - I swear I searched for this! I promise on my eyes!

A buddy has a stock 2004 TJ with the 5 Speed. His 4X4 Indicator, on the dash, and his Reverse Lights stopped working.

I know how to trouble shoot the bulbs - by jumpering the connection on the harness. I know what fuses to check as well.

What I do not know, and here is the question: Do I need to drop his skid plate/belly pan to reach the Back up Switch and Xfer Case Switch if those are the culprits and need to be replaced?

I have a BL and can reach right in on my Jeep. I just worry that I can only reach these because of the BL.

Thanks Fellas! And Gals too

On my 00 TJ that has a NV3550 transmission, (can't recall if 04 has the same or if this is the year they switched) my reverse light is on the side of the transmission, and I can change it with out dropping the skid plate. Look down the side of the transmission for a small cable or pair of wires, and that should be it.
