stock spare carrier

How many of you put a 33" tire on an aluminium rim on the stock carrier? Can it be done without breaking anything? It's on an aluminium rim so it's a bit lighter. Anyone have pictures of this?

Some claim it is doable without damage - some claim otherwise. I had a 32 on a steel rim on the stock carrier for two years without any problems, but it was all on road driving. Now that I have 33s and off road it I wouldn't think of putting it on the stock carrier.

I have a YJ and carry a 33" spare on a alloy rim. it does ok (on road mostly) but i am having problems with the rear hatch sagging. I wouldnt reccomend it unless it were your only option.

Never had a problem with 32's or 33's on any of my jeeps. had a 99 that made many trips to the trails and it held up fine with a 33" spare for several years before trading it in.

I have a 32" spare on an Alloy wheel and haven't had any problems. It's been on for about 2 years and my Jeeps sees some moderate trails. I don't think I would put anything larger than that on the stock carrier. When funds allow I do plan on upgrading the rear bumper and carrier.
