stock steps

I took off my stock side steps but left the bolts or bolt. Actually I think its a piece of threaded rod bent through the frame. Did anyone else take this off or did you leave the rod and just put the nuts back on it?

There nutserts in the frame I took mine off but put the bolts back in to keep crap out of the threads should I ever want to remove them

Left em in and tightened em down so they don't rattle.
