Stock stero common problem?

Ive looked around but not found anything exactly like my problem. ive had by jeep since december and the cd player never has worked right. when i put a disc in it just spins loud, loud meaning like when you first put a disc in a normal player its loud for a sec then goes quiet and plays. mine just keeps being loud spinning. this is a stock stero in a 00 sport. is this a common problem? ive heard the steros arent the greatest quility. Should i just replace the whole head unit? Thanks, EJ

The stock stereo's are poor quality, I had a lot of problems with the CD player. It would not play CD's that I made, all I got was error and it would spit it out.

Well, some CD players are not made to read burned CD's. It's not that there's anything wrong with them, but just that they were designed prior to the CD-RW technology.

True, but we all know the Wranglers hold their value and you pay good money for them. I paid a little more than I should have for mine, but I would have liked a much better stereo than what is put in them.

Time to either replace it or get an FM modulator for your iPod.

i say you are best off getting a new headunit, this is an amazing headunit for an amazing price, i have the earlier generation of this headunit and have no complaints. if i were you and looking to upgrade go with this headunit and do it quick before they start selling them for full price again.

I would suggest the Dual XHD7714 or the 7720. I just installed the 7714 this past weekend. Only thing is that the USB is on the front, and not the back like the one "Jma20a" suggested. Though this one has HD radio built in, and bluetooth built in without spending hundreds more for the add on that you have to find a place to install (the 7720 would need a BT module but cheaper at 50 rather than 170).

i would go with this head unit it is really good. that said mine has been rained on,dirt in it,my wife spilt me beer all over it sunday and it still goes strong.it has also been over some very rough trails at high speed and only skipped a few times(chiva falls, the gap, chiminey rock, and a ton others and high speed is 20 mph on a 3.5 trail on the hard stuff). that said it is coming out to put a my gig in after my back surgery june 3rd.

Aren't you guys worried about having aftermarket head units in a vehicle that doesn't really lock?

I would be afraid of someone just climbing in and stealing it.

Factory stereos aren't very attractive to thieves.

the face plate comes off, you can't pawn a stereo without the faceplate.

as for the duel headunits i have owned a few of their models and all had electrical issues after about a year. and having the usb port in front makes it more likely that dust will make its way into your headunit. i have my ipod dock mounted in my armrest and plug my sirius unit into the aux input. it has a 7-band EQ, along with much better audio decoding for use with a large amount of audio file types.
