Has anybody ever taken the muffler out and just put a straight pipe on??? Did this on my Corvette for some cheap increased growl and wondered about the Jeep now.

In Florida you are not allowed to modify the stock exhaust system. Many counties and towns also have noise ordinances. However many, many people do indeed highly modify their stock exhausts. It is a very overlooked law in South Florida. Central and North Florida cops are a little more strict with the law. In South Florida as long as your exhaust isn't bellowing out smoke and your pipes aren't dragging on the ground you can get away with pretty much anything on the exhaust.

You will get pulled over for too dark of a tint and/or bald tires. %90 of the time when they pull over a vehicle with too dark a tint they like to inspect the whole vehicle and sometimes will search it as well. If they find straight pipes, or any other problems, during the inspection you will get a warning to fix it, you have to get it fixed, usually within 30 days, and bring the vehicle and all repair receipts to the local courthouse, they will reinspect it. If you fail to show up in 30 days with proof of repair a bench warrant is issued and your license is suspended. The next time you're pulled over you are pretty much f#*ked for a good long time, it can take up to a year to get your license back and usually costs about a grand. I had an employee go through all this a few years ago. His tint was too dark on his Dodge Ram. He removed the tint and went to the courthouse on day 31, a day too late. It was a Thursday, he spent the weekend in jail and I had to give him a ride to work for 6 months until he got his license back.

Please stay out of the forests if you decide to go against everyone's advice.
The environmentalists are actively seeking any reason to close down motorized recreation on public lands. Noise pollution is just one of them.
