Question Strange New Noise...

'04 TJ 4.0

I live in North Georgia and you may have seen news coverage about the winter storm that shut us down a couple of weeks ago. Well, needless to say, it was a good time to own a jeep and 4WD.

I used it primarily just to get to where i needed to go, but I'd say i used it more than i ever have before. Ever since, the jeep's been making a new noise.

It sounds like i've got a tin can bouncing around underneath somewhere. The sound gets louder and more intense with increased speed, (road speed, not affected by engine speed), but after a few minutes up to 55 or 60 it'll stop. It doesn't do it when I first crank it, or when the engine is idling. Only when it's moving.

I don't know that the noise has anything to do with the 4WD, i just know it wasn't doing it before i used it for a good bit. The jeep's performance doesn't seem to be affected.

Please share your thoughts on what this could be, and if it sounds urgent. If I need to take it to the shop, i'd like to have an idea of what to point them toward. Thanks in advance for the input.

"i used it more than i ever have before..." - referring to 4WD. Not the jeep itself.
