Stupid Question of the day....

Howdy, all!
It's time for : "Cole's stupid question of the day"
Today's topic is: Driving with the hard-top lift-gate open.
So here's my dealio.... I'm lazy... or as I prefer to call it: "Energy Conservative"
Sometimes I wanna feel the breeze in my hair...but I'm away from my garage or am otherwise unable to remove the hard-top.
I wanna open the glass lift-gate and hit the road with "flow-through ventilation" but i'm concerned that I could break the glass or lift struts....and that would undo all that serenity.
Anybody have any guidance....other than put my soft top back on.
See...beat ya to it. lol
Thanks, all.
.....Oh, and YES....I know not to drive with the back open and the windows closed....hence FLOW-THROUGH ventilation.

Sell the hardtop, run the soft top all year. Your in TX and don't need a hardtop. Hell I am in NJ and won't waste the money on a hardtop. My yj had one and I hated taking it on and off every year.

I wouldn't ride with the lift gate open. I'de be afraid of braking something. I have a Sunrider soft top now so I can just open the front part. I like that best. I've had softtops and hardtops.

I ride with my rear window open quite often when I'm running my hard top. My struts are in good shape, and I have no fear of breaking the rear glass. I run at freeway speeds like that as well. However, I will not run with JUST the rear open as that can pull CO2 from the exhaust back into the cab.

I haven't seen my soft top since winter but I think that it's only a few screws to take the rear window off. If you're that concerned keep the right size screw drive or star wrench in the jeep with you and take it off. Not sure how much it rains down there but my guess is not very often so you dont have to worry about putting it back up in a hurry. Just a suggestion.

The glass is not going to break with it up.

I drive with the gate open alll the time. Everything is fine and dandy only time it hit my third break light is when i drove over some curbs to get to the other side of a parking lot. So it's safe to leave it open just dont go offroading with it like that.

I saw this thread and immediately ran outside to snap pics of my work. I've been using this set up since the first week of having the TJ, IT WORKS AMAZING!. I took rubber grommets or rubber pipe fittings and used screw clamps to hold it down. Be sure to leave a little bounce space for the support arms to move or you will get a scary noisy vibration while treading bumps.

I think I'll git-er-dun tomorrow.

Thanks for your feedback, all.

I got all the parts at an auto store. Cost me almost $5. You're gonna have to cut the grommet linear with the lift support to wrap around the piping. That's what I get for not getting a car with A/C.

Looks like the solution to your window dilema. I like it.
