hey guys, im new here. i locally found a nice looking 2002 tj with 86,XXX miles. the guy is asking 7500 for it. he says it has a rebuilt title. is there anything in particualar i should be looking out for? it is a five speed, which is hat i want.
if you have a good mechanic you can send him over to take a look at it and he should be able to tell you if its a good deal or not. does the current owner know what the problem was causing it to have a rebuilt title?
Dear Algebra, Please stop asking us to find your X. She's never coming back and don't ask Y.
Definitely try to find out why it has a salvage title if that's what you meant by a "rebuilt title". If it was a flood recovery vehicle like from Katrina, it could be chock full of future electrical problems.

If your thinking about getting a loan for this jeep, talk to your bank. Some banks lend 85% of the lowest blue book and others full low book. Find out why there is a rebuilt/restored/salavaged title. You may want to consider one with a clean title.
My personal opinion is that it will be hard to re sale and would not hold value well. That may not matter if you can find out what caused the title to have a rebuilt status. It could be a good deal or lots of trouble down the road. Keep researching it.
First question...WHY REBUILD AN 02! To quote dlrides "run away...run away"!! BIG red flag on that one!

Rebuilt title means at some point a insurance company payed out a "total loss" on it, which made the title a "salvage title". Then someone bought the Jeep, fixed what was wrong with it, had it inspected by motor vehicle dept, it passed and now has a "rebuilt title". This can be a way for you to get a perfectly good Jeep for way less than book value, you just need to check it out CAREFULLY, and realize that it is worth less, and will be harder to sell than if it had a clean title
