Suggestions to replace my 00 TJ SE

Howdy,
I have a 2000 TJ SE 5spd with 170k miles bone stock have owned it since 30k.

Im starting to think maybe I should look into upgrading to a newer Wrangler since there are things I wish mine had : ac, bigger motor, cruise blablabla..

Id like to get something that's stock, or barely modified, I don't trust other people's work very much.

My question is this, should I stick with like a 2005ish TJ Sahara with a m/t? I have noticed some JK's with around 100k miles (give or take) on craigslist for around $16-17,000

Should I trust the 4.0 over the 3.8? I know they are using the 3.6 now, so that kind of makes me wonder why the switch..

Looking forward to a good discussion guys!

IMO if you are looking for the more rugged traditional jeep I would stick with the TJ's. If you are looking for more of the modern fance vehicle, then the JK might be for you. Personally I love my TJ for my toy and love the 4.0L. Its bulletproof. If i was looking into buying a Vehicle to haul people around and more everyday driving I would go with a newer JKU. I would def go for the 3.6 Pentastar engine over the 3.8L But again that is my PO.

I do love my TJ, I would definitely consider another. What I was hoping to do was stay around that $15k mark, that way, I can sell mine for probably $6500 or so, and only be into a new rig only $10k. And as of now, most 3.6 penta's are $20k or above.

the only issue with the one i looked at last night was that there is a plate riveted on the tailgate.. 2004 sport with 5 spd, rear disc brakes, new top, undercoated, 100k miles. its missing the rear seat and carpeting. but for the right price, i wouldn't mind.
