super 35 price

Im looking at getting a super 35 kit and have been checking prices.

Can someone tell me the difference between these two??? I know that the "ture super 35" from superior has the quality rolled splines but both of these appear to have the superior shafts. what am i missing???

quadratec doesn't explicitly say they are superior shafts but says they are "rolled" splines... someone please explain the difference in price is almost $700

Not sure if you are dead set on doing this but the Ford 8.8 out of an explorer is stronger and it ends up being cheaper than doing the super 35 upgrade. I swapped over and am very glad I did. There are many other members on here that have done the same. If you want more details on it, I'd be happy to help.

Not dead set on doing this. Just was curious. I know about all the swaps and have done my research.... just was looking up super 35's and thought that these two looked and "sounded" almost identical yet so far apart in price. Im assuming quadratec is dealing with some wordplay and not putting superiors shafts in....

buuuuutttt if anyones for a d44 or 8.8 for sale hit me up .... itd be nice if it had an ARB in it too

4WD's seems to come with a 2-3 year longer warranty; maybe that's built into the cost? They also advertise price matching though. Maybe shoot them an email with Quadratec's ad to see if they'll drop the price and keep the warranty? It appears to be the same kit (probably sourced from the same OEM), they even use the same stock picture of the kit on each site.

I have heard people mention though, that if you plan to mount larger than 33x10.5 tires, the D35 can be a durability concern.

good thinking on the warranty! didnt see that. I have heard the same stuff but also heard that 35's would be around the limit. Was just thinking ill be getting an arb and probably never going over 35's that for not much more cost than an air locker i could run 35's without swapping axles.

If I remember correctly, lockers and D35 dont really mix even when upgraded. I'll look around to verify my thoughts.

I was going to go with the super 35 kit, gears and locker and then I called a place that someone on this forum recommended and I ended up going with the dana 44 and everything else for a couple hundred bucks more. It seemed worth it to me to go this route and get rid of the dana 35 altogether.

The Superior Axel Super 35 Kit is a good way to go on a TJ. The 30 spline S35 is stronger than a factory D44 axel. The S35 locked will handle a 35" tire without trouble.
Ford 8.8 is stronger and should be considered if going with tires larger than 35". The 8.8 is not necassarily cheaper than the S35. Depends on how handy you are. You will need to cut and weld brackets. A fair amount of work goes into the 8.8 upgrade on a TJ. Another option is the ECGS 8.8. Not cheaper than a S35 but will be stronger.

As for purchasing a S35 kit I would call Savvy Offroad. They have deep discounts on Superior products and Gerald treats you well and makes certain you have everything you will need.

Thanks Nick. Good to hear from a fellow Iowan! thanks for the suggestion... i will be calling savvy soon! If anyone has an input on wheather i should go with 4.56 or 4.88 with an auto and 35's let me know!

The Super 35 kit is a different story...it upgrades the shafts from 27 spline to 30 spline chromoly. This kit is good up to 35s...locked.

You still have the C clip on the 35 though. Just sayin.

If he feels it absolutely necessary, I believe the Super 35 kit may also be available as a C-clip eliminator...not positive though.

I tried selling my Superior D44 to a friend of mine, but he spent the same amount of money on the Super 35 kit. Two weekends later, I got the call to go rescue him. He broke a shaft on its first trip out. Needless to say, he bought my 44. I broke my 35 the first trip out after putting a Detroit in it, but it had stock shafts. Neither of these rigs were "hammered on". It's not just the shafts that are weak on the D35, the housings are as well. I think it's worth the peace of mind to upgrade to an 8.8 or 44. Being broke down miles from civilization sucks monkey butt. Just my 2 cents.

This seems out of the ordinary...bustin a shaft on a brand new super 35 kit...?

And busting a shaft on a stock, locked 35 like you did is not uncommon. That is why most people advise against locking a stock 35

I realize the 8.8 is a lot stronger but it too is a C-clip. I realize 35 probably arent going to break an 8.8. Just because i like arguing... it still is c-clip

I say go Super 35, it's plenty strong for probably 99% of the wheeling you'll do around Iowa. Obviously you can break anything if you try hard enough but I doubt you'll ever have a problem. If I ever decide I want a locker I am going Super 35 without a second thought.
