Actually your gas mileage would improve. 4.10 is actually listed as the acceptable gearing for highway cruising and better gas mileage. Now your 5th gear is going to seem a bit underused, but you'll be fine running it until January. As for 4.88 gearing, it's the standard gearing recommended for 35 inch tires, but it's also a pro-off road gearing, providing the most power to the wheels and therefore, also a worse fuel consumption. The median at 35 inch tires is about 4.56, but if I were you and this was being used off-road as well, go up to 4.88.

You are averaging about 9mpg, I would say that's something other then your gearing causing that
Ok I live in a very rocky hilly place. Please explain how i can save gas milage when im in the wrong gear reving the crap out of my engine all day to get up hills. Like i was saying if im climbing a hill in town i need to be in 2nd gear to go the speed limit if i try to shift into 3rd i slow down. Same on the highway in 4th gear i can go the speed limit while reving the brains out of my jeep and if i shift into 5th i slow down. If anyones knows how i can get good gas milage like that please let me know. Maybe it would be ok if you live in the flat lands and the wind stays at your back all day.

FREDO is right if your reving the crap out of your engine your sucking down way more gas. And if he puts it in 3rd the engine is working extremely hard to keep turning those tires so its suck down more gas and putting more strain on his drivetrain. Sorry about my statement say you should be fine before I completely forgot what gears you were running.

YJ, I think he's quoting Burton160w's statement that his gas mileage should improve with 4.10 gears and 35" tires. Which, as we all know, is a FALSE statement.
