Supercharger?

What are the Pro's and Con's to having a supercharger in a 2000Sport?. Is it worth the 3000-4000 dollars that it costs.?

first off its a ton of money. I'm not sure if a supercharger will be the same but with a turbo charger you have to let it sit and idle for 30 seconds every time your leaving and maybe before you turn it off. And you have to run premium fuel ($)
why get a supercharger for 3,000-4,000 dollars when you can get a V8 and tranny (and everything else from the car) for less than that from a junkyard. if your lookin for power you could just get the drivetrain from a car out of the junkyard

a supercharger does not have to sit and run, atleast if its the manifold type. a turbo motor has to be run so it can cool, but whats 30 secs? plus your ignition can be programmed with some fancy stuff so it cuts off after the 30 seconds. i would not put a jy motor in my jeep, things are in junk yards for a reason! and after the motor is rebuilt and you buy all the swap parts i bet it passes 3k. you would save yourself alot of headaches by just adding a sc. 3k isnt that bad, some cost close to 6k for some cars

There's pros and cons to both. A supercharger will give you the power that you are looking for, but you can only gain so much with your six cylinder. You will still have to have your computer reprogrammed, and go through the pain of installation, and fuel mileage will severely suffer. On the other hand, with a v8, once you swap in all the wiring and the v8 comp. your mileage may actually increase. With both, if you are running stock axles, you will probably experience major drivetrain failure due to the horsepower increase, so you will probably have to make some drivetrain modifications as well. So be advised. I broke my modified (super 35) with a stock 6 cyl. Point being, it's going to get real expensive, real fast, so be prepared if you decide to go either route.

well when i said its in the junk yard for a reason thats just what i meant, for a reason. you assumed i meant the motor was bad, not my fault, but thats not the only reason i was talking about. i am fully aware of the fact that jewels can be found in junk yards. so is this corvette engine an ls motor, or an lt??? as far as swap parts he did have to get swap parts because he had to get the wiring and cumputer, once again thats what i meant. I am still going to stick to the fact that it costs more, because not everyone is going to get a deal like your buddy man. all that stuff normally costs more than 2k. but no matter what the price a motor swap is still more difficult that putting a power adder on. and programing is easy, unplug the computer and send it to the people your buying from, lol. I know kenny bell will program your ecm for you. . I think your impressions on junk yards are off a little man. Look at it like this, a motor with only 10k miles on it for 2k? hmm now how on earth would a corvette get wrecked??? beating on it maybe?? so its not safe to assume a motor is good because its got 10k miles on it is all i am saying .Lets bury the motor swap hatchet because thats not what she asked about. Bottom line the question was if 3k was worth it for a supercharger, and yes thats not a bad price

If they made a supercharger for my lil 4 cyl I would consider putting one in. It's not bad as far as hp/price. You have to wiegh all the options though. Do you have any other mods to your Jeep?

Someone used to make one that fits the 4 cyl, I just can't remember who. Seems I remember it running around2500 to 3000 bucks. I've tried searching but can't seem to find anything.

Thanks for your advice =)

My current mods are...........
K&N intake
Nerf side steps
Matrix racing seats (when they arrive)
Nitto 36' tires
The interior used to be gray but we pulled it all out and refished it and now it is black.
Herculiner on the jeep bed
After market Exhaust
3 inch body lift
6 inch suspension lift

The lift kits were the only thing installed when we bought the jeep. The rest we are still working on. There may be more I am just not aware of yet.

Also we never had a supercharger before. We have a 2003 evolution lancer 8 that has a turbo. We love it.....so maybe we will get a supercharger.

I would vote for a custom turbo if u got a 4 banger.. power when you need it and you can get tons of boost which 4 bangers love and still get somewhat same mpg...

Either turbo or V8 is my recomendations...

I vote for a V8. Lot of work but if you do it yourself it will be cheaper in the end, and should make more power. I had a friend who bought a running suburban with a recently rebuilt 350 chevy in it for $500. He kept the engine and tranny, then sold the axels, then sold the rest of the body as scrap. After all was said and done he gained an engine and tranny, plus he was $100 richer

Sounds like you have a pretty interesting set up going on, lets see some pics
