Surboard mounting on jeep

Heading to assateague island this weekend since the weather should be nice and looking to surf some waves since I haven't all year. I don't have a surf rack or canoe rack of any sort but wanted to bring either my 6' fish or 7'2" board. Has anybody mounted surfboards safely on their jeep without a rack? If so pictures would help tons so I can rig something up for just this weekend and something permanent later on. Also probably will have a full load of people so I can't just throw it in the back. Thanks for the help!

I used to put my 7' board in the back with the back window out and secured it with bungees to keep it from sliding back and forth. If it was raining, I'd lay it on the passenger seat with the seat reclined all the way.

I haven't been to Assateague in a long time. Have fun and I hope the surf cooperates.

*By out the back, it was still supported by the back seat.

For short trips I used to tie mine onto the roll bars. Just make sure the lines are tight and towards the ends as much as possible to keep it from sliding. Also, you can gently run a line from the front bumper around the skeg (again, gently!) to keep it from sliding back. I would definitely run with the skeg toward the front of the Jeep, though. Have fun!

I'm not a surfer but I live in surf town and this is a pretty common way I see them on Jeeps. But it is usually a long board. Most guys I know that run a 6' or less will put it in the back seat with the window out. At 7'2" the roll bars should do nicely.

Thanks for all the help on the mounting ideas. My dad and I worked it out last night with just my one board and I'm going to drive around today with it on and see how it works.
Some pictures

And wanted to show off the new highway pegs I just got

Nice. I miss surfing. Too fat and old to paddle much anymore.

Where'd you get those pegs?

Cool Jeep pegs! I have had a set for 2 yrs. now still look the same as when I got them. Did you order them from jeepegs.com?

Yeah surfing can wear you out really easy but can't be a nice day at the beach! I'll be sure to post some pictures Sunday from the trip. And yes they are the regular pair I believe from jeepegs and I hope they last that long for me too. They seem pretty heavy duty and I want to do some bike waves to people now lol.
