Swing away tire carrier

hey, i was thinking about making my own swing away spare tire carrier because i was told in another thread that the weight of a 33x12.50 tire on a steel wheel will cause my tailgate to sag. my questions are, can i put it on my stock rear bumper or will the weight of the tire be too much for the 1/8" steel to handle? is there any way to make the bumper strong enough without buying a new bumper? anone have any pictures of how to make a tire carrier or any advise at all? i don't want to buy a new bumper cause i don't really want to spend that kind of money right now. i'm a poor college student working part time, so i don't have alot of money to throw into that. thanks alot for any help or advise.

There's no way you're going to make the stock rear bumper even close to being strong enough for a 30" tire let alone a 33" tire. There's no cheap way to do it without installing a MUCH beefier bumper or going with a swing-out carrier like from Off-Road Fabricators that doesn't use the bumper at all but it's not cheap either.

I have a cheap solution, It is what I am going to due when I get my 33's or
35's. Take the back seat out of you jeep and put the spare on the bed, a 35 inch tire should fit no problem I measured it today. YOu can even secure it with a bike lock to the floor!
Just a suggestion I think I am going to save my money as well!
I wont this

Either of those two carriers would get VERY old VERY quick after the owner lifts the tire back into position a few times after needing to open the tail gate.

i think that thing is kinda cool looking! but holy cow would that get old quick. i figure my 37" tire and steel wheel weigh in about 100 lbs. i dread having to remove a tire when i am working on something. let alone having to lift that weight just to get into the tailgate! screw that!
