Swithcing manual to auto?

Found a 1994 wrangler 4.0 with manual trans.
Just finished my 2003 TJ and now I found a found a moderately used 94 that I plan on using for those days when I really want to turn up the fun factor.

Only problem is its a manual and I want auto. Is it a simple transmission swap or is there way more involved.

From my understanding the items you need are below.

*flex plate,
*transmission cooler lines,
*Shifter
*Trans, I think you only want the 3 speed auto with a place for the CPS to mount.
*Driveshaft's
*Transmission mount.

Thank you. Carb work and tranny work are my Achilles heel!

you want to swap an auto into the 03 or the 94?

either way, it's a pretty involved process. the 03 being a lot more wiring with more electrical nightmares.

Sorry for the confusion. 03 is already an auto. I spent way too much care in restoring it to "better than new" condition. I now don't want to wheel it. Now I want to get a beater!

Install a 32RH automatic into that '94, it's not a bad swap at all. I swapped that same transmission into my '97 in a weekend. It's the small parts that are the hardest parts to find, like the special low-profile bolts (to clear the torque converter) that hold the flex plate to the crank.

Your gonna want to swap the AW-4 automatic transmission out of an Xj. Use a 91-95 trans and grab the t-case while your at it. This Is not an involved swap and if your going to do it let me know and I'll put together and list of everything needed to do the swap.
I swapped one into my 91 4.0HO Yj...not a big deal at all.
Don't let all these guys who don't know confuse you...if you can change a clutch then you can do this swap.

You might also want to post this in the YJ forum too.

Steve you are right on that the AW4 would be a much better transmission choice but it's not a straight-forward bolt-in swap like the 32RH I recommended is. I'd rather have the AW4 than any other Jeep transmission I've ever owned though which includes the AW4, 32RH, AX-15, and current (POS) 42RLE.

You're right Jerry it's not a direct bolt in swap. But this swap is relatively straight forward and the benefits of having a 4 speed automatic are paramount. He'll need to have a few things like a SYE kit, shorten the rear drive shaft and lengthen the front ds too. He'll also need a Xj trans/t-case mount and drill new hole in the skid plate for it too. There's a few more things needed but nothing to difficult or costly. One thing to remember is the YJ is an OBA1 system and the transmission and the motor don't talk to one another in any way. Like I said this is a Yj not a Tj so if he really wants to do this I'm more then will to give a list of what it will take to do ithis swap and step by step directions on how to do it.
