SYE and Adjustable Upper & Lower CA's

Just installed my 3.5" suspension lift - had to install the 1" TC drop spacers (which I don't like at all) so now I'm looking at the SYE kit... my question to everyone is -

Will I have to install adjustable UCA's and LCA's with this kit? These aid in the adjustment of the pinion angle correct?

Yes, you will need the upper adjustable control arms to dial in the correct angle. Most of the time you can do without the adjustable LCA's. When I did mine, I did not have to adjust my LCA's at all.

Do a tummy tuck while you're at it. So you don't need to buy the shaft again later if you decide to go that route later.

I've learned quite a bit from this thread. I thought I could just slap on a SYE and new DS and be done with it.

My question is- Why do I need the adjustable upper control arms in the rear with a SYE and CV DS when I didn't need them before? Isn't the pinion angle the same now as it will be with a SYE/DS change?

I have looked at the various diagrams explaning why you ned to align all of this, but for my puny little 3" lift, I have vibes even with the TC drop installed and I want to fix it. Now it is looking like I need the SYE/DS, AND adjustable control arms....... more $$ I was not expecting....damn...

The way I look at it, when you raise the TC up further the shaft would put out more.

Have you thought about installing a 1"MML and 1.25" BL? This will allow to get rid of your TC drop spacers. Much cheaper route than the SYE, ds, and UCA's option.

question why is it that when you do the BL and the MML, that you do not need the SYE, UCA, and DS change. And does that count with larger than 3" lift or just with a 3". Sorry new to this and trying to get some good info on this.

I am having a nOOb moment and while checking my jeep I notice that there aren't any upper control arms in the rear. I knew this already since I didn't notice any while installing the lift, but I still had to check again to see if I was missing something.

So what gives?

I am too looking into this same thing with running a SYE and CV DS, when I talked to the guys at RoughCountry (running their 2.5 lift will be adding the body n motor mount lift to run 33) and wanted to run their high clearance skid plate. They said I would not need adjustable upper control arms. That the stock ones will be fine. Any one have some opinions for me?

yea had to take a second look but found them right above the axle and thinking further in the back of my mind i think i answered my ?. i figure if you shorten or lengthen the CA's it would defiantly change the angle of pitch on the axle, which would in turn lessen the angle on the DS. But if I am wrong please let me know so i will not keep thinking this.

I think with adjustable UCA's the objective is lengthen/ shorten as needed for you particular lift? However I'm new and learning too and could be completely off the mark???

That is correct, if you lengthen the UCA's it will push the ds yoke upward for angle adjustment.

but that is for the smaller lifts lifts like the 2.5 or 3" not larger because when you have a suspension lift it puts the space between the axle and the frame which increases the length between the TC and axle correct. But i might not be right so let me so i dont lead anyone on this thread wrong. with my wandering mind.

I see some good points in this thread but i do need to give my experience. It might help. I have an 06 LJ she sits on a 4 3/4 inch lift. I did the tera flex SYE after popping a U-joint. I have adjustable UCA but left them alone and have never had an issue. I don't have the belly drop on either. When you lift the TV your input angle will increase but with the SYE your drive shaft will extend to counter this angle. All you need to ditch the belly drop is a good SYE. But if you lifted the Jeep do a track bar.

If that was the case, your axle would flop all over the place. In a link suspension, you HAVE to have opposing members to prevent the housing from rolling around its center axis. Just think about it.
