Sye/tom woods?

Anybody heard anything about Advance Adapters SYE W/Tom woods drive shaft?

That would be a nice combination. Tom Wood (not Woods) makes high quality driveshafts and Advance Adapters makes high quality SYE kits. Nice to read you're not considering the JB super-short SYE kit, theirs eliminates the speedometer gear which makes it difficult and expensive to recalibrate the speedometer after tire size or axle ratio changes.

So far it looks and sounds like a winner to me, pricey but oh well, I guess when you spend alot of coin on a lift, might as well spend some more so I don't screw up my rearend. I think it will compliment my lift nicely. Can you say tires and wheels to the back burner? Maybe I can get my sugar momma to get me those for Christmas...

Now now Jerry, the JB isn't that bad. My rig with 4.56's and 37's is closer in speed on the GPS than it was with the AA SYE and wrong tooth speedo gear. If it's a trail rig then the JB is much better. However for a street driven rig I will side with Jerry here and state that an AA SYE is going to be your best bet.

However it is actually Tom Woods Jerry. And yes he does make some of the most reliable driveshafts in the Jeep market.

My interpretation of this add on is when you have a lift 4" or better, especially on a TJ, it gets rid of all driveline vibration and prevents your rear driveshaft from popping out of your rear diff, when your doing some serious crawlin, causing all your fluid to fall out and making it a horrible day? I may be wrong but thats what i've read. or am I smoking the pipe again?

Take a look at the front driveshaft on your TJ.... this conversion makes the rear just like it.

While a longer CV driveshaft will stop it from pulling off the t-case output shaft on a TJ with a tall lift, there's no more worry about the ATF leaking out if the rear driveshaft is disco'd from the t-case. That was a problem for the '95 and older YJ 231 t-case but not for the '97 and newer TJ 231 t-case. The '97 and newer TJ's t-case will not leak its ATF out if the rear driveshaft has been removed.

Anymore I'll just do them while the case is in the jeep. However if someone is doing it for the first time I would suggest removing the case from the jeep. All said and done with removing and re-installing the case along with putting the SYE in place you can expect around 2 to 2.5 hours for your first one.

They aren't hard, AA puts some great instructions in the package and will step you thru the install very well.

I had that setup and broke my cv and u joints everytime I left the pavement until I traded the Jeep in the CV actually got toasted on the way to the dealership right after it was fixed. I'm trying JE Reel next time.

I hope that the SYE installation is done in one day. I can use a friends garage with a service lif only for one sunday.

Is it ok to drive only with the front DS after the SYE install? I have to shorten a XJ front DS andthat neds a few days.

Idiots

So here is the deal, I want to purchase this system however I have placed several calls and written several emails concerning some questions about driveline issues, and their so-called "experts" haven't given me the time of day. So i'm here again for the REAL EXperts. Once I install this system(advance adapter SYE w/Tom Wood DS), will I have to remove the TC drop kit that I installed to put it back to stock? And what is this driveline balancing I keep hearing about? I see no reason to remove the TC drop kit other than to get back that ground clearance. Even after I installed the drop kit I have a little vibration at first start but it goes away with speed, or should I say that it masks itself into a harmonic growl. This growl I know is because my DS is not angled correctly still and prolly out of balance. So what is the deal? New system installed= balancing also; or should I be okay, TC drop kit? leave it or heave it?

Get rid of the TC spacers, they were used to help drive shaft angles to reduce vibration. If you put a longer CV drive shaft on the drop will not help at all.
