tach and speedometer problem...

every once in a while(usually after hitting a bump, pothole ect...) my tach and my odometer stop functioning....all the other gauges keep working, and after a couple of minutes, they all work again.

also, when the gauges stop working, the airbag light comes on?

any idea, hints, opinions?

its not that big of a deal to me, but it would be cool for me to understand what is going on.

There's a fix for that somewhere on this forum, it's a known problem with the connectors. it involves a simple tweak. Good luck

Search out "connector fix"

This is a common problem in the early TJ's. Usually a smack to the dash will fix the problem temporally.
What you need to do is remove the dash and clean up both the pins and the socket that the dash plugs into. I used plain contact cleaner (radio shack) and a toothbrush. I also pushed the pins apart just a little bit to insure they made contact when it went back together. Then apply a little dielectric grease to he pins before reassembling the dash.
Its a fairly easy job that shouldn't take more then a couple hours. Once I cleaned mine I never had the problem again. 4 years later I traded the Jeep in.
