People who work on them bitch a lot, but I don't work on my truck. I'll let someone else do it if I don't think I can. I'm happy with it. I have even more respect for the company when they didn't take any $$$ from the government as a bailout.

But the question was Jeep or Toyota. Naturally, I like the decision to go with a Jeep.

ford never declared bankruptcy. they sold off brands and pulled out loans on the brands they kept to avoid it. some say that because of this they may be worse off because they have more debt then gm and chrysler did, however they are also making the most of a profit of the big three.

its not that bad working on them. i work on all of ours, and the only issues ive had would be common on all other similar cars. ex: working on the back side of the engine in a mini van.

Completely agreed. I was wrong about Ford Bankruptsy. They never filed.

They did have a garage sale. they consolidated debt into spin-off companies, jettisoned them, and let THEM file for bankruptsy.

Kinda like corporate liposuction...losing the weight without having to work for it.

Brilliant strategy....so long as you dont happen to be one of the spin-offs suddenly saddled with big-moma's debt and then told to move out and get your own place.

http://bexhuff.com/2008/12/omg-ford-...re-just-an-oem

http://www.forbes.com/2006/01/23/for...0123flint.html

Either way. you are correct, they did not seek a hand-out like the others. And for that, they certainly deserve my respect.

I'm certainly NOT anti-American car. Im on my 3rd suburban. I put OVER a quarter million miles on EACH. My family has had eight suburbans. American is all I've owned.

And I am relieved to see that the "big three" are waking up from their drunken stupor and discovering that they better get smart in a hurry if they dont wanna have their a$$es handed to them by the foreigners who have been bringing their A-Game for more than a decade.

While our guys coast.

2012 is indeed looking like a good year....that is until December 24th....when the world ends.

just kidding. lol

As I see it, you should buy the tacoma. It may be subconsiously that you know that owning a JeeP would probably overload the amount of enjoyment that your body and soul can handle. Due to this you come to a JeeP forum to try to get some sort of validation. It will be ok. Honestly. Buy the Tacoma. Stay on pavement. Help friends move furniture. Ultimatly, Drive it to therapy.

Good Luck

I heard on the radio that Ford had their BEST 1st quarter this year in COMPANY HISTORY. Now THAT'S impressive!

they really are doing well, with a great product line up. makes it so much easier to keep choosing ford even though we no longer get the employee discount.

My last vehicle was a Taco, I wheeled it and I loved it. Now, I love my TJ. I miss my truck when I need the bed but the Wrangler usually does the job (I have no back seat or carpet). You cannot really compare the two except for offroad performance which the Jeep wins because of more available parts & resources and shorter wheelbase. It really comes down to "do you need a pickup truck or not?" If you don't then Jeep wins again.

Easy fix for the lack of a truck bed.. buy a 300.00 trailer.. I had the same "problem" when sold my Ranger. At least people won't ask you to help them move...

Welcome aboard and welcome to the Jeep family.

I owned a '97 Tacoma 4x4 PU - great, reliable vehicle, fun to drive too, I think your I think your choices are between practicality and fun - tough choice (me, I'd choose fun !!).

I suspect that if you buy a Jeep, you won't wonder or regret not gettin' a Tacoma. If you buy a Tacoma, you'll always wonder what owning a Jeep would be like.

Test drive a few Jeeps, if you've not owned one before, I think you'll regret not gettin' one.......

I think everyone should own a Jeep at least once in their lifetimes (ummm - for me, I waited until I was 60)......

I have one of each. The Taco is 4WD and has a locking rear diff, but there really is no comparision. Two entirely different animals. Plenty of room in the truck, fine in offroad, smoother ride, but not a serious off road vehicle (of course, it is not "built up" for it though). The Heep, though not too heavily modified, wil go many more places off road, but a rougher ride, much less room. What do you really want out of your vehicle? DD, dedicated rig, etc.??
