tacoma vs wrangler .... sorry

Im sure you here this all the time lol. but yet again. Im looking at tacomas and jeeps. I just need a little convincing to get the jeep which Im leaning towards anyway

04 tacoma manual
or
06 wrangler soft top 6speed 6cyl

the way I see it
jeep.
sacrificing luxuryand ride quality (which isnt big for me) for the awesome camping trips up north during winter. going to get addicted to aftermarket parts and spend all my cash

tacoma.
more bed space , better ride, toyota has my confidence in quality. (DD is a 94 toyota pickup with 239k). recently took a tacoma offroad , did not like it off road. most likely going to regret not getting the wrangler

convince me. somewhere in the back of my head i hear a voice screaming get the wrangler you will not regret it, but the tacoma is still lingering around. I just need a few reasons why the jeep is gunna be awesome

A Jeep is a Jeep! A Tacoma is just a truck.

I'm doubting anybody will vote for the Toyota here on a Jeep forum.

All depends on what you want to do with it. Also, depends on how much you wanna change it to MAKE it do what you want.

As expected, for both counts, my vote is the Jeep.

I used to have a nissan hardbody 4x4 truck with lockout front hubs, 5" lift, 35x12.50x15 tires, it was my introduction to 4x4ing. but the trany went bad in it. I didn't have the $$ to fix it, had to sell it. that was 5 years ago. I bought this used jeep last sept. and I love it, it's super fun to drive, it's versatle- (spelled wrong?), I can go pretty much any where I want, when I want. shift into 4wheel on the fly, top down, top up with windows off, top up with windows installed. by myself or with my cute wife, who also loves going topless. still get to wave at others, and you get this great support group, just for owning a jeep, people who own jeeps love to talk to other jeep owners anywhere. nicer attitudes than some bikers & truckers I know. did I mention the option to customize, HUGE selection of aftermarket parts to choose from. go crawling, trail exploring, camping, to the beach, or just daily driving, I could go on but I'm running out of space.

I bought my first wrangler in October of last year and as a result I will not ever not have one. I have owned 4 trucks; could have lived without anyone of them. Really if you have to ask please buy the truck

I have had 3 Z71's and they are good but they are just to long! The wheel base on my jeep gets me a lot more places, tight places I never could have in a full size truck!

If you're even wondering.. then maybe you're not cut out for Jeep life.. you may need to play it safe and get the plain old Japanese pickup truck.. make sure you check the brakes.

Jeep won the second world war.. Toyota (Toyoda) was a loom company building trucks for the "empire."

X2-firefighter777 has it. Buy a real truck. If you are asking about a Jeep or a truck I am afraid you are not cut out for the Jeep life.

I agree. Buy a Ford Ranger or something if you must have a pickup. American quality is on the rise, and has been for the past decade... while Japanese quality is, as you may have read , has been on the decline.

Trucks do have their benefits and Toyota makes a great truck. I had a 1984 that had well over 300,000 on the clock before the frame rusted out. Somethings you do need a truck for. try fitting 20 sheets of 3/4" plywood in a Jeep, yes it can be done BUT the question is do you want to.. A Jeep isn't for everyone, but like others have said it is a lifestyle, I equate it to those who ride motorcycles and those who ride Harley's. It is just diffrent !!

That's the key though.. He's talking 2004. A lot of quality decline between 84 and 2004 (mostly between the mid 90's and now).

Buy the truck if your not sure. I'll put my plywood on my utility trailer and pull it around topless (the Jeep) ...But I won't be able to wave at you.

I have a '99 extended cab Tacoma (3.4 6 cyl) and a '00 TJ (2.5 4 cyl). I do not want the Tacoma for wheeling but it's a reliable, great truck and meets my hauling needs. The Taco gets about 14 MPG and the TJ gets about 18 MPG.

For me I prefer the TJ for a "fun" ride.

If you don't buy the Jeep now, you're just putting it off until the next time. You may not 'regret' buying the taco, but you'll always be looking at the Jeep next door. I say scratch the itch & get it over with. You may find you love it, you find you hate it.

Get the Jeep & resist dropping a ton of cash into it for at least a few months. If you can make it a year all the better. I say this because if it's not what you thought it would be, you'd at least be able to get most, if not all, your money back (if bought for the right price & not from a dealer). Not so if you go dropping a ton of cash into a lift, tires, wheels, bumpers, tops, a winch, various other mods, & the list goes on & on. If she become your baby, then great, drop all the cash you want, but never expect to get it back.

As far as the taco, they're great trucks. I've driven Toyotas for years & have a healthy respect for them. Like the Wrangler the taocos will hold their resell value well. If you're worried about space, then buy a 5x10 utility trailer & call it a day.

My Tacoma rides like a tank. I must admit, it's the best off road vehicle I've owned in 25 years. It has 131k miles and runs like new. But, I'm bored with it. Now I'm in the market for a Jeep.
If the bed space is your biggest concern, I'd suggest you buy a trailer.

My 97 Taco gets 19 regularly in town, and I've seen as high as 26 on hiways.

I hate the tacoma's i worked for a toyota dealership during my highschool years and the only one i ever liked was the x runner. i used the other 4WD ones in the snow and was still copnstantley getting stuck and spinning on ice while trying to salt the parking lot. My advice Stay away from them jeep FTW. Also not to mention jeeps hold there value very well.

And above all Toyota dident win the war
