Question tail light out

after a fun day of jeeping it was brought to my attention that my reverse light and later my left tail light is out. so i got home took the covers off and the bulb looked great. no blackening and the fillament looked good so i put the bulb out of the bad light into the passenger side and it lit up. why is there no power to my driverside tail light ideas?

Check the wiring for the light. You can follow it from the taillight itself. Just look under the rear corner of the jeep and you can pop the plastic cover off....you will see the wires there.

Impala - Congrats on fixing your tail light problem. If this is your first time dealing with that wiring back there, feel lucky your problem was with your driver's side tail light. The passenger side wiring has been known to be jambed up in there and not nearly as accessible.

Let's talk about that grumpy and inaccessible passenger side tail light. I discovered that mine was out this afternoon. I got the plastic cover off at the corner and the connection was solid. Does anyone have advice for trouble shooting the passenger side tail light?

How does the bulb look? Did you try another bulb in the socket? Do your turn signals work, brake lamp? Stick your test light probe into the socket and clamp the ground onto the frame. Does it light up? keep working the probe up the wiring until it doesn't. Let us know what happens.

That was my first thought - "What have I smashed loose now!?!?"

My bulbs are all good. The back up light works, but not the brake light (so neither does the turn signal.) My tester shows power available in the connector coming out of the Jeep so I am thinking that only some part of the hookup between the lamp and the connector is bad (as I still get power to the back up lamp.) I'm on a budget here so rather than buy a new connector wiring and lamp housing I was going to cut off the connector completely and then wire and crimp the lamp straight across. Not the best fix, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. Any thoughts?

Good work, Voodoo - Now you're a resident "expert" on taillights for the next person who needs help in this area.

I don't know if I'm any kind of "expert"...! My fix was more a solution born of financial desperation than anything else. I do however have a recommendation on bulbs though. Since I was in there anyway, after I got the lights working I switched the factory bulbs with SilverStar (1157) bulbs. Four dollars a bulb but they are wicked bright.

If I can avoid breaking anything else before the next big payday - that would be good too.

where the hell did you find them so cheap? the head lights are almsot 40 and the H3 that i need for my fogs are 21 dollars. I always joked that the bulbs in the foglights in my Impala cost more than the set of foglights did

Advance Auto Parts. They were in a two-pack, eight bucks and change for two bulbs. 1157ST. That having been said, I bought the only one they had on the shelf. Maybe it was some kind of promotion or something - I didn't spend much time looking around I just grabbed them and bought them before the wife had a chance to notice what I was doing. I know what you mean about headlights, the very first thing I bought for the Jeep was the sealed beam Silver Star headlights and I think they ran thirty something bucks a piece.

I replaced mine the other day (bulb #1156). When I took the lens off, the burnt bulb was completely BLUE! I didn't know what the heck I was looking at! Kind of weird....
