Tailgate Hinges

Has anyone dissembled sticky tailgate hinges on a 98 TJ ? Can I simply remove them and knock out the pins then clean or polish them (the pins) and reassemble them? My gate is getting so bad I'm afraid I will start to damage the tub where the hinges bolt on. I have access to a bead blaster so my plan was to blast them and repaint them while they are apart. Does that sound possible or don't they come apart in a manner that they can be put back together.

Those hinges are notorious for being problematic due to the galvanic reaction between the hinge pin and the hinge. I haven't heard of someone successfully disassembling one before. I am interested to see if this is possible because my hinges are bad too.
