Exclamation Take off doors for 1st time. Have tried EVERYTHING!

So my 2001 wrangler has never had the doors taken off. I have tried literally everything to do so. WD-40, various lubes, I have tried jacking it up, but that just bent the pins a little bit (nothing to bad) and they STILL will NOT come OFF! I'm looking for some helpful hints. I have read every thread on every forum and have yet to be successful.

Thanks,

Andrew

Wow, I had the SAME problem with my 2001 Wrangler. Basically I used WD-40 spray (Idk if that's important...) for about 4 days, spraying the bolts every so often in passing. Then I used the jack (Make sure to put a piece of wood there) to start pushing up the passenger door. After that initial lift my cousin and I could pull it up. The drivers side door came up fairly easy. It'll most likely take a few days that first time.

Take the nuts off. Just kidding. Mine were difficult also but after spraying lube up into the hingepin area I just worked the door back and forth over and over and over while putting upward pressure on the door. Have the window rolled down. It slowly worked it's way up and finally off. Once you get them off(be careful, they're very heavy)smear a dab of grease on the pins and they will practically jump off by themselves next time you remove them. Be careful not to wack them into the body when they do finally lift off. Don't forget to remove the nylon door strap first. Good luck. Maybe have somone gently tap upwards on the hinge pins while you're doing this.

I would assume the nuts came off first... Lol, but yeah, you might want to do this with someone else so they can catch the door. I scratched the side of my Jeep a little due to the door popping off.

I'm pretty sure mine have never come off...as today when i went to take the nuts off, the head of the nuts literally broke off in my fingers. How would I go about getting the remaining bolt out of there? >.<;

I did that too, are you sure you were turning the right way? I accidentally turned one the wrong way. But no that isn't a problem. Mine doors still came right off.

Well I wasn't even turning really. Just had it b/w my fingers and it kinda crumbled off. So you're saying you can just lift it off after the heads of the nuts are off even though the rest of the bolt is still in there (not threaded)?

Yeah the bolt is attached to the door itself. The pin in the hinge is a part of the door. and stays attached to the door.

For what its worth, when you get them off, before you put them back on. Put a little dab of Anti-Seize on them, (I wouldn't use WD-40 personally). I did this last time I had to muscle off my doors and this time they came off super easy.

halfs or full? i have full doors. i had a problem with my passenger door this year. i lubed it then rolled the window down and gave the top of the window a couple of upward hits with the palm of my hand. once it started to separate i just moved the door back and forth until it comes out..

Alright I'll spray it with some WD-40, or something else for a couple days. I have pretty much put my back out trying to get these things off...

Alright I picked up some PB Blaster (which the smell is very hard to get off your hands) and letting it set in. I tried lifting the doors off and they have already loosened up. I guess I just have to spray it a little bit more...and wait

I just took my doors off last night. It was a real pain. Soak them suckers with Power Blaster or Liquid Wrench or some type of penetrating oil.

To get mine off, I put the jack under the open door as close to the hinge as possible & lifted. Then I took my trusty hammer and hit the bottom of the pins (where the nut was) until they started to come up. I repeated this lifting & hitting until the doors were off. Don't hit too hard, just hard enough. If you hit too hard, you may miss the pin & hit the Jeep.

If you don't want to damage your paint by an errant hammer blow, put some masking tape on the Jeep and the door in the areas where you're gonna be hammering. It will save your paint from chipping.

I used PB Blaster, let them soak, then used a really SOFT rubber mallet, smacked the crap out of the hinges, and they popped loose....

If the door opens, they should come off? Put a little weasel piss(PB Blaster) on um and get a small block of wood and tap the threaded end of the pins upward? I dont understand how they could be stuck? it's essentiall the hinge for the door, so if your door opens a closes it shouldn't be bad???????

if you get one hand underneath the door nearest the hinge as you can get and the other hand on the upper window frame with the window rolled down.

get a shirt, fold it over a few times, put it over the hing and hit it with a hammer for a couple times. knocks all the rust loose and the door pops right out ;D

Thats what I was thinking!!! Still trying to get these suckers off. Figure I'll whack it with a hammer a couple times and I should be golden.

Take a bolt the same size as the one in there and put it in the bottom and hammer it up and that might work! But when you get it out I use graphite and never have a problem with mine come off easy every time.

I GOT 'EM OFF!!! I almost dropped them when they popped off but I managed to hang on to them. What I did was sprayed it with PB all day (about 4-5 times), whacked the hinges with a hammer for a while, then sat in the door entry and pushed the doors up and out with my legs. Took a while, but it worked! Thanks for all the replies, hopefully this helps someone else.
