I'm not here to get done hate about using a soft top, I like the hardtop on my jeep for security, noise, and comfort, but there are times when I go camping with the wife that it turns into a great day and I would like to take the top off. So I was curious if there were others out there that like the hardtop but would like to be able to take it off while camping or whatever. Would you buy a metal frame that you would be able to use to take off the hardtop. Just wondering.
I don't really understand he question. The hard top is so easy to take off and put on. Could easily be done during a camping trip. If u are concerned about where to put it to keep it off of the ground, is a tarp or a few branches or a couple of short 2x4s. The possibilities are endless and you will likely enjoy it way more in nicer weather.
I wouldn't buy a metal frame. If your wife is unable to assist I recommend getting a rope pulley & a couple of ratchet straps. Use the ratchet straps to create a harness then hoist it up via pulley/tree branch. That or get a fellow camper to help pull it.
Thanks for the responses, I've never tried to take the hardtop off by myself unless I had strap support in a barn our garage, to worried that I would drop and break it. But if you had a frame that would fold up small enough and would support the hardtop would you use it? I want to build one made from square tubing but can fold up small enough to take anywhere.
Camp in the woods, near trees?
Easy pulley system and a few straps. Then set it on the ground.
