Talked to Joe...

At Absolute Offroad and he convinced me that 5.5 on 35s is the way to go since the only reason I wanted 4in was because I thought I wouldn't need an SYE/CV driveshaft. And as far as my d35 is concerned...? That's the only reason I'm slightly worried, but I was told that by airing down to 8 or 9psi (like I always do off road) would put me at a 33in tire.

The 5.5 is the same as the 4 so I might as well go with the 5.5. But I'm looking for more answers beside all that I know.

I know to get an SYE/CV drive shaft. I'll break the axle soon enough anyway. I'll buy it in parts. The lift, then tires, SYE/CV, etc. until I have everything to put it all together. It's gonna take me YEARS! lol

It's your fault! But I'm glad... But it IS going to take some time... And I hope the axles last at least long enough for me to upgrade...

Oh yeah and Scott he said to talk to you about your Jeep, you might have good insight for me.

I wouldn't have bitched if I did it to myself, but that's why I asked here first before I did something. Jack gave me the idea of piecing it together, kit here, tires there, SYE after that... put it together all at once, have a drastic change versus building it up over time.

He told me that if I was careful I could, and off road if I airdown, but it's not a matter of "IF" but rather "WHEN" they snap like tooth picks. I run is loose sand aired down, so I hope I'll be ok.

Sorry... The 5.5in lift costs the same as the 4in lift. I pulled a debruins!

And he said you could tell me cool stuff Scout. IDK what nice rig BTW! Possibly about a 5.5 lift vs. 4in lift...?

Everything you can tell me! He said I should go with the 5.5 because It's gonna cost the same as the 4in I wanted originally. I'm afraid of running 35s on my d35 though. He assures me I can if I'm careful. He also said aired down to 8psi they would be like a 33. I told him to watch my video's to see how I wheel.

I already know I'm gonna snap my d35, I'm just hoping I can keep it for a little while...

So you want to run 35's...

Take your time and make sure you know where you want to end up with your Jeep. In other words, do it right the first time.

The best advice I can give you is when you do decide to get your lift and bigger tires make sure your Jeep is ready for it. There's a lot more to adding a 5.5" lift than just the 5.5" lift.

When I sent my Jeep out to Joe he not only did the lift he also upgraded my axles, regeared it to handle the even bigger tires I'm about to put on and upgraded the steering again. I knew I had to do ALL of that in order to complete the job.

Whether you decide to do it in stages or all at once make sure you know what you want in the end. I see a lot of people (myself included) that dump more money into all the in between stuff than it's worth. Take your time and make a plan. Then work all of those modifications into your build.

I knew about the gears and I know my axles will break sooner or later. Other than that I want a Jeep I can do what I want with. I want it to look good, and go anywhere.

What did you have to upgrade the axles for? You have d44s right? And what's this about the steering?

Just because you air down doesn't mean a 35 will be the same as a 33. Sure height wise maybe but you will be putting down a big footprint and have more rotational weight. That means you will be putting more torque on the axle.

I say plop a Ford 8.8 in it and be done. I do like your idea of waiting until you have all your parts though.

Well how about running 33s until I can replace the read end? That's gonna be SOME time before I do that. The 33s would prob be completely worn before I did the rear end.

Is that a viable option?

What did you have to upgrade the axles for? You have d44s right? And what's this about the steering?

Yeah broken down Jeeps look great sitting in the driveway.

Stock Rubi 44 axles are probably ok for 33's and I knew I was pushing the limits of my stock axles with 34's. That's why I upgraded the axles shafts to chromoly. It strengthens the axles shafts and lessens the chance of failure. They're not bullet proof but they're better than stock. Also the OEM 4.10's aren't going to cut it on 36's. The axles were equipped from the factory with 4.10's to handle the stock tires. When I added the 34" tires to my stock gearing it pretty much made it feel like a 4cyl starving for a different gear.

I had a really beefy steering system before. It was an ORO U-Turn which is a crossover steering system. Once I decided to go with RockKrawler Joe advised me that due to the new RK track bar the U-Turn wouldn't work. So there went the ORO and in place came a Currie. Both are great steering systems with really beefy components however the Currie maintains all of the factory geometry just with bigger and beefier parts.

Start adding it up and it all starts getting expensive.

You gotta pay to play.

Will the stock steering setup work? And if you were pushing it w/ 34s on a d44 I'm just BEGGING for trouble w/ my d35. I can't imagine Joe would tell me falsely however.

Can I run 33s w/o too much trouble until I can get a better rear end?

How about upgrading my 35? or would a new 44 be better?

Joe didn't tell you anything wrong. Joe told you you'd be ok with the 35 if you took it easy. REAL EASY.

The stock steering will work but it's only a matter of time until you'll need to replace it. Go outside and take a look at your tie rod and compare it to mine.

That's a quarter. (don't mind the towel, every pic came out black so I needed a light background)

How do you think your is going to hold up with 35's?

Sure..........you were polishing your under carriage and found a quarter and couldn't believe you had money left over from your lift...................so you took a picture to prove it.
