Tell me what is this thing?

Hi all,

I have a Wrangler 2006, that has about 50,000 KM roughly 31,000 Miles.
I had it now for 2+ years.

I was driving for about 300KM and heard a sound coming from the engine that I was not pleased to hear.

I stopped by one on those mechanics on the road, and the guy told me that is the delco distributor (could be mis-spelled) so had to lubricate it and the sound has gone.

Questions:
What is this thing called?
Is something that I better replace?
What was causing the sound, since the car is almost new?
I will try to attach an image of the engine with the thing.

Thanks

That, my friend, is the oil pump drive... actually called the Camshaft position sensor/Oil pump drive. And it was squealing like a pig wasn't it? Had mine replaced. The bushing gets oblong and makes a horrible noise.

If it goes out, oil ceases to move, so make sure just lubing it didn't merely cover the actual problem otherwise you might be looking at a new engine.
