Hello there,

I was driving back from the store (about a 5min drive from home) The jeep beeped, looked down and notice the temp gauge was sitting on red. Immediately turn on the heater and it started to drop instantly to its normal running temp. I noticed when i opened the hood when i got home (about 30 secs after this incident) the bottom of the hood was all covered with what looked like coolant. We have a bumpy road to teh house and i noticed when i over fill the reservoir it will leak out and get all over the place like this. I keep forgetting to get anti-freeze so instead i dump tap water or distilled in until i remember.

So after this I have a few questions.

1. Its an 05 wrangler with very low miles, 70k-80k but being almost 10 years old unsure of how old the Water pump is nor the thermostat, could one of these failing cause this?

2. Since the temp change happened so fast should i be worrying about a warped block?

Thanks in advance for the quick reply, you guys are great about this and if you have any other questions please ask. Wife and I are very concerned since we still owe money on the ol girl.

Would help if you added 50/50 mix of antifreeze. It and a functional radiator cap raise the boiling point a few degrees and, all other things being equal, might prevent this problem. If it persists then look into radiator flush/cleaning, then water pump.
