Tensioner/Idler Pulley

Does anyone know what size bolt goes through the pulley itself and screws into the tension adjuster? Mine apparently worked loose and ripped out yesterday in Philly and I can find the pulley no problem at NAPA but nobody seems to know about the bolt that runs through the pulley. Thanks.

I'd use the pulley to size the bolt diameter and then isolate it down to the correct thread pitch which is likely pretty fine. Depending on the model year of your TJ, odds are very good the bolt size is metric. Newer TJs use mostly metric, older TJs use SAE around the engine.

I have a 98 2.5L with AC so I'm guessing its SAE. Does anyone know if it needs to be Grade 8 or no?

It doesn't need to be Grade 8, it really doesn't even need to be a Grade 5. What I would probably do though since the shank needs to be smooth is to just get it from the dealer since that particular bolt has some rather exact dimensional requirements. NAPA is one potential additional source since most NAPA stores have a good assortment of automotive hardware.

Thanks. Got it taken care of today. Had to put 3 3/8 washers behind the pulley to space it.. Jus long enough to get factory spacer and bolt.
