Exclamation The Million Dollar Question

Ok here it is. When my Jeep sits out side in the cold no matter how long it starts up just fine. If I drive it and it warms up then shut it down it will start up just fine. BUT when I pull it in to the garage to work on it for about an hour it wont start, and has no power at all. No lights buzzers or anything. It has done this twice now. Both times I did not mess with anything electric. I have to jump it. I do not get a check engine light when this hapens though. The other times I had to jump it because I left the lights on I got a check engine light.

You may not need it but here is some info:

2006 TJ, 4.0l, Optima Red Top Battery, Stock altinator. The Altinator charges and the battery holds the power just fine. No blowen fuses.

Try removing the battery cables and clean them and the battery ternimals. It sounds like the connections are dirty.

maybe when the metal is cold it shrinks and forms a tight enough connection to start.

when its warm it gets just loose enough for it to not make proper contact?

have you tried checking to see if they are loose? grab the cables and try giggling them back and forth

Sounds to me that you need to move because the Jeep does not like your garage. Nauh all jokes aside I would say check the battery temperature sensor also.

The battery sensor is in the battery tray under the battery.

It's not that the battery cables are tight, they need to be cleaned. Remove them both and clean them. Goto an auto parts store and pick up a battery terminal/cable brush and clean them. You say it starts with a jump so that tells me the power from the other car is going throught he cables externally but not from between the battery posts and the cables.

if your connections on the battery are tight you might want to check your frame ground. your ground runs to the frame check it , it might be loose i had a ranger once that was doing the same thing and that was my problem. But it sounds like your not getting a good connection.

Say it was the neutral safety switch?? I just wonder why it started by jumping it?If it is like most you can push on the side of it and slide it closer to the contact tab or back so the pedal has to be pushed hard to start it.

That is the only thing I can figure. I tried every thing else, and when it happened the other day I just it in to neutral and it started right up with out having to be jumped. Also it is an automatic.

Where is the neutral safety switch?

Well maybe you need to burn the bmw to appease your jeep... jk
I had a car with a similar problem, it turned out to be a problem right around the shifter, i'd have to back it to d1 and slam it into p to get the system to let me start, no idea if that applies but its an idea....
