Another reason I miss my '75 CJ5 and '81 Scrambler. No cloth. No carpet. No plastic.

i think Trudie's previous owner left her topless in the rain several times...her steering wheel grip (foam, whatever) is not bonded to the metal wheel frame and flexes almost 360 degrees when I twist...would flex all the way but I don't want to tear it.

My 2002's steering wheel dose the same thing at the 12:00 spot. Been thinking of injecting crazy glue into it with a syringe to possibly to get it to stop.

Or do what I did paint the inside of the tub with aircraft erosion coating after you throw away the carpet, buy a cheap cd radio player, and yank the little spring in the cylinder lock of the steering column that rusts up and freezes, stop watching the idiots on tv and relying on their weather forecast, and either learn to watch and what to watch for to tell the weather yourself, or get a smart Phone and download a weather program. I keep my windows with me when the top is down even if the doors and frames are in the back yard, but when I get my income taxes I plan to get soft doors Then I'll carry the entire top on or off and the local weather idiots can kiss mi (bumper)

I keep two trash bags in my glove box to it on when my seats get wet. They work as well or better than any seat cover. I do need to get a squeegee though. I keep seeming to get mud on the inside of my windshield. In fact I put gas in cleaned the inside and w/in half an hr it was muddy again. Oh how I really do love my Jeep. Best vehicle ever.

You could check out inferno Girls website she' on here and she makes some dam good looking seat covers that I think are water proof, and if the steering column is an issue with anybody theres a cover on there too that covers the wheel and the part of the column where water can get inside and rust stuff out.

Epoxy sounds good, but will it squeeze through a large syringe. Have to get it in there somehow.

Wet ass, no problem. I carry a towel every where I go. I made the worst mistake I ever made in a Jeep within the first 2 hours of owning my first CJ7 30 years ago this summer. My wife and I bought this beautiful 79 madarine orange CJ7 Renegade with 31's on white wagon wheels. Picked it up and went straight to the house and dropped the winshield down and thought that was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. We decided we would go for a ride and set out on the town windshield down and all...which was fine until as the sun is going down we cross over to a back road. As we drive down this county road at about 50 mile an hour, hair in the breeze we hit this swarm of bugs and they began popping us in the head which was bad enough but as I tried to slow down I got hit with one right in the eye and immediately ran off the road and into this field with my brand new shiney Jeep. It looked like we were auditioning for an episode of Rat Patrol. Needless to say the windshield came back up and I have never put one down since.

That depends on you, if your a 105 lb petite thing with soft subtle skin that is scared of bugs........no, If your a 285 lb Marine that just came back from Iraq and feel no pain.......yes.
But if your a normal person and use the needle that comes with the epoxy kit.......you shouldn't have much trouble.

My owners manual says DO NOT Operate the vehicle with the windshield down at a speed greater than 3 mph........now I know why, thanks in advance, I was gonna do that some day.

I enjoyed reading all your accidents with the top down and do feel on occasion it would be fun to have the top off. But in 10 years I have never had the hard top off my 2000 Sahara, something about destroying probably $5000.00 electronics, carpet, seats, etc. My 31 year old daughter would like to have my jeep, but I know the first thing she would do is take the top off and ruin the interior. I do like to drive it on vacation to hard to get to places. Have fun, safe motoring.

That is BLASPHEMOUS!

We go through the pain for pleasure my friend, and if it happens to rain... just think of it as a spiritual cleansing

I just keep track of what's going on with the weather on my phone. Having no doors or top is such a rewarding experience.

I have found that the two most important things to keep in the Jeep are a small squeegee and a hand towel from your bathroom, teh hand towel is to wipe of the steering wheel and anything else you don;t want to stick an arm or hand on the Squeegee is for the inside of the windshield
the 3rd thing is having room in the garage and you wont need one and two...lol

I was riding naked with the wife and kids a few weeks ago and a sudden summer rain came out of nowhere. The kids loved it. We all put our hands up like we were riding a roller coaster (well, not me, I was driving) and had a blast. Something my girls will never forget...and the Jeep does dry out.

Ya know some say the top never comes off, some say the top never goes on, Me I say this, rain is why I have three things, (1) a cheap cd/radio,(2) no carpet, (3) drain plugs in the glove box.

wolfen, I found a set of soft doors on craigslist, I bought them for the same reason you want them. I carry them in the back of the jeep and I've been doorless all summer and loved it!!

LOL, I'm sure it contracted them from sitting next to all those H2's and H3's in the parking lot at work.

Here's a bad iphone photo.

Yep and that is EXACTLY why I check whenever and wherever I can for a set for mine So far this summer I've been mostly doorless and top down frames out, I only put the doors back on if its gonna rain, anything above 25% chance, but I've been told by a few people ( nobody with half a brain or above) that I don't want soft doors or half doors because of the noise, Well isn't that why my radio goes all the way up to 60? Oh wait they all meant rap music, well doors on or off I have to put up with rap music. But wait isn't that why my radio goes up to 60 .............yep.
