Thinking about sand/paint the wheels, anyone done it?
I am going for the green black "no chrome" look. The only thing left to paint are the wheels. Can anyone give me some tips?
Should I deflate tires and stick something between the tire and rim to do it?Are there any tricks? Or should I take the vehicle to local shop to do it? Maybe someone already got them done and post pictures?
I love DIYs though.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

i think you can have them dipped to remove the chrome, then send them out to a place that will powder coat them.. not sure how much that would cost (may be cheaper to just buy ProComp rims.. 15x8 are like $60 each..
i went the same way.. but run Rebel Racing wheels, rims and caps are black but lugs are chrome.. (but they look pretty nice that way.)
you can try just sand blasting the ones you have then use a chemical agent to remove any missed chrome or debris, then scuff them and paint them with a decent high temp paint, (not sure how nice that would look though)
hope this helps..

I painted mine and they look good. I scuffed 'em up pretty good, primer coat, then the spray paint. I used Krylon metal paint for the rims and Krylon Fusion for the plastic center caps.
However there are a couple of spots where the paint has come off.
In hindsight I probably should have sprayed them with truck bed liner. That stuff's hard to come off. Eventually I'm just gonna go buy some black rims.
I just stuck masking tape on the tires and sprayed away.
