Time for new pressure regulator?

It looks like it's time to replace the fpr. I'm having the same problem as I've seen in many posts here, it won't start on the first crank but the second or third time it starts right up.
So I think I'll just replace my whole fuel pump assy. and save another possible fuel tank drop later.
My question is, what brand would you all suggest? There seemed to be quite a few options on Rock Auto. And it looked like some come with more parts than others.

Do you have problems starting when the engine is cold? If so, then you probably do have a bad FPR, however I have had a similar issue but only when the engine is hot. I think I found the solution, see my thread here:

C.L. was kind enough to point out the Chrystler service bulletin that sounded a lot like my problem.

I do believe that I have the problem when it's cold too. At this point it hasn't been consistent at every start. I will start taking closer note of when this is happening and when it was last ran. Thanks for the info.

Well when left work today, after leaving it sit for 9 hours, it was the normal 2 crank start. It ran fine, no loss of power. Drove for about 20 minutes, turned it off for about 20 minutes, then it was a long first crank to get it started. So I'm guessing it is going to be a failing FPR.
Any other comments or suggestions, anyone?

Also, back to the original question, do you all have a suggestion of a particular brand or model fuel pump?

I'd replace both the FPR and fuel pump, fixing that slow start problem seems to be hit or miss when just replacing the FPR by itself.

I'd avoid the cheapies like the Airtex, I'd go for the OE Mopar discounted from Mopar parts | Dodge parts | Chrysler parts | Jeep parts | WeRMopar.com or get a Bosch or similar quallity from RockAuto Parts Catalog

I used an Airtex fuel pump/FPR to replace mine a couple years ago & it's leaking already... I have to cycle my ignition switch on-off-on 6-8 times to get a faster cold start in the mornings or after it has been sitting a while.

I bought a new OEM one for my 98 4.0L from Car Quest. The 98 OEM pump/regulator/sender unit is made by Bosch. Not sure what manufacturer made yours in 04. I have read bad things about Airtex. I think I would go OEM on this item since it is a pain to replace, and I want the best reliability I can get. Go look at one at the dealer (probably $ 500+), see who the manufacturer is stamped on it. I would not purchase from online-as the sender unit parts are plastic and kind of delicate. If broke you cannot send it back anyway (being a fuel system/electronic part) not sure why they won't take it back. Anyway you will need to find locally somehow. Good luck. FYI dealer wanted $530.00 part only. I bought same part for $ 254.00 OTD.
